Does One Pocket ?

Does one pocket take away ones ability to play pocket pool ?

Most top one hole players are very good at 9 ball.
Orcullo :). Ghorst/Cohan and many others.
It helps your get a feel of coming four or five rails around to get on the other side of the stack.
Be like playing par 3 golf courses, and then going to a pro course with many par 5's, diff. game.

You MISSED the KEY word:: break

How does 1-P help your 8-ball break
How does 1-P help your 9-ball break
How does 1-P help your 10-ball break
Ok then...the way I break it helps.. I bust them open in 1P. If one goes in I keep running. I love a quick game...other wise it takes forever. By starting 1p with a break speed hit it helps my 8 ball. To be fair and answer your question.. no it does help an 8or9ball break. It does not help playing odd ball or a 15 rack rotation break. It does not help if you break the bank in Monopoly. It does not help if you BREAK WIND... You got me on this one. I will spot a ball.

No it helps all pool games. You learn to control both balls much better. Also helps banks.

1P improves everything in your pool game-if you can play pool when you start playing 1P.

For a average player who’s played pool for less than 2-3 years and doesn’t yet have solid fundamentals then yeah 1P might be a bad idea.

But when you have a good stroke, fundamentals, and can play rotation games with strength and firepower. Then 1P will be very beneficial to round out your game. Playing 2 way shots and safe in rotation games improves drastically after a year of 1P.

But to start playing 1P when your C player could be bad. Bunting before you can shoot isn’t a good idea

Fatboy<——-still can’t play 14.1, but has the rest covered
Points well made! The best One Pocket Players are now the best shooters too, Dennis, Alex, SVB has to in the conversation now, Filler, Fador are all shooters. So if your a C-Level player and want to learn One Pocket, shoot a lot a learn the consequences of missing first.

I think C+ players should watch 1P and play it a little. But until good solid pool fundamentals are established and one has a understanding of pool and pocketing balls and pattern play in other disciplines then 1P is the right idea. Too early in one’s pool career it’s not helpful.

Now for some gifted talented guys this comes much sooner than others. There’s no timeline on this that applies to anyone. It might be a few months for a super gifted player and never for a league banger who plays once a week for 20 years. It’s about playing at a certain standard. Then move to 1P for finishing touches in pool as a whole.

And some guys like Johnny Archer never needed to play 1P, he was a world beater no matter what in 9 10B.

It’s different for everyone

Why ask questions you know the answer to?

That’s embarrassing and isn’t cool

Fatboy<———knows your better than that.
Not offensive on my end. I can handle anyone here. I'm seasoned. I'M FKN MARRIED...who's next...bring it on. Un"Break"able

There’s nothing like playing a higher level 1p player. However in tournaments the weaker player has zero chance. A C+ or B player against an A player is going down fast. I’d like to see 1p tournaments for the C’s and B’s.

The B’s

The C’s would be fun for a little bit.

We used to bet on bangers sometimes. They never knew. Talk about a sweat, any ball can and will be missed. 2 dogs in a race-ones gonna win. Was good fun actually.
