How to learn One Pocket

It was so fun watching Cliff out run the nuts in the 1990s when he would come to Oklahoma City.
For sure! NOBODY gave more WEIGHT then that foul! He came to Houston and gave evrybody 10/6 - 10/7! I keep telling him I wasn't going to bet with him..., of course I did and he got there most of the time. In 2013 before he hurt his shoulder he was really playing good, I didnt think anybody could beat him..., but Efern!

I always wondered this about Cliff.
He rarely played totally on his own money, and was frequently staked for everything or borrowed it.
So how good would he be if he didn't have a stake and just had to play with what he had + build up a roll.

Well he really did play on his own Money, with Cliff it all went, his Money your Money and everybody else's. Its just that everybody wanted in on the Action and nobody could believe the spots he was giving and who he was giving them to, so it just turned into everybody putting up Money all the time.

And he was a terrible Money manager so if he won it wasnt going to last.

Really, the best way IMO is to find a 1pocket guru that plays the game well and can intelligently explain what and why and how things should be done.

Play him cheap, buy him lunch and/or drinks, or pay his time -- but treat him with respect. Don't just try and steal the knowledge and never show respect and honor for the hard earned lessons he is sharing with you.

Perfect advice, this is what I was lucky enough to do with Buddy Hall and Bobby Baldwin in the early 1990s in OKC. Losing a few hundred to them paid off many, many, times over with the knowledge they were willing to impart on me.

Go to Derby City. They play four straight days of "one pocket" and you can learn a whole lot by watching how good players go about their business.

If you can do DCC PLAY 1 POCKET LOCALLY.

Hard to find people who want to play.

Most are into 8 ball.🤯

FEDOR gorst answer is
DONT MISS/WATCH WHAT THEY DO /DO IT BETTER
The two best talents in the game today, Fedor Gorst and Josh Filler are both under twenty-five and possess the kind of work ethic that we once associated with Mike Sigel and Earl Strickland. Together, Fedor and Josh, with the help of a solid and highly capable contingent of challengers that will push them to their max, will raise the bar to an unprecedented level of excellence in pro pool.

Both of them can hit it out of the park in any discipline. Between them, they have won titles in every discipline in pool in the last ten months. Filler won the Bigfoot 10-ball at the International and at Derby City, both Josh and Fedor have numerous 9-ball titles of late, Josh won the American 14.1, Fedor won the Derby City banks and the Derby City one pocket. There's pretty much nothing they can't do.

Still, let's not get too carried away. In one pocket, I doubt either Fedor or Josh will prove more creative than Efren was at his peak, but they both bring a level of shot execution to one pocket that has never been seen before and their opponents will have to reassess their defensive approaches when they play against either one of them. The moves-oriented players will find it harder than ever to prevail against these two.

The only thing I'm absolutely certain of, however, is that it will be fun to see how it plays out.

Did you see Josh play Tony in Roy's Basement??? Made a believer out of me. He strikes fear in champions and changed the concept of the game. This was the most exciting One Pocket series in my memory. I think we are on the same page..."it will be fun to see how this plays out".

Right on! That was a good example of how the game of one-pocket is different when a sharpshooter of almost unparalleled ability is in the mix.
