Can anyone tell me about the DCC?

I'm thinking of attending the '23 Derby City Classic. I've never been and searching threads has yielded a little but not a whole lot of the information I'm looking for (there are a lot of threads discussing the events and results which makes searching for answers to the more logistical questions harder).

My questions, in no particular order:

1) The website has the TV VIP seats listed as sold out, but others as available. However for those other options it says: "The Derby City Classic shop is closed. If you are wanting to purchase tickets please do so at the event." Er, if I wait until I get there would I still get tickets?

2) The tickets all seem to be for a single-table arena. If I didn't purchase tickets, what would I have access to watch (I'm thinking like early rounds, etc)? Any cost? Any seating, or SRO for these other areas?

3) I would almost certainly not be a participant in the events (C+ player, here) but would love to play some casually or low-stakes action. What options would there be for me at or nearby the event?

4) The schedule isn't 100% clear to me. Do they backload all the final rounds for the events to the last three days? Could I then only watch anything with tickets if they'd all be in the TV arena?

5) Are there any other nearby attractions if I wanted a little time away?

Also, anything else that might be pertinent. Much appreciated!

... but searching for "derby city classic" or variations returns many, many threads discussing the events/results and not so much the logistics of attending. ...
True. It helps to know particular words that might appear in such threads or that you remember having put in such threads....

January, 2022:

December, 2018:

Some things have changed, probably. It used to be that the "action room" (about 10 tables) was rarely used for tournament matches. Has that changed? And the last time I went the Horseshoe was in the middle of remodeling and restaurants were very limited. Has the food situation improved? My last time: no buffet -- not entirely safe anyway -- and no ice cream place. The Horseshoe's website implies that there are two places to eat -- a medium-level cafe/restaurant and a four-option food court.

I would not go without a vehicle, but I don't watch pool for 16 hours a day anymore. For the same reason, I wouldn't stay at the Horseshoe's hotel even though it's 10 minutes from the action. The last two or three times I went to DCC the hotels I happened to stay at in New Albany were being renovated. Hopefully they are done with that by now.

If you have a car, Louisville is possible for dinner, but New Albany is fine and closer.

I’m going out on a limb here that the seats already purchased for the VIP TV table are long standing repeat customers? Looking to go from the three day pass that I did for 2022 to the nine day pass (and probably table side) for 2023. I see that some of the seat options are already taken. Wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything and that the typical purchase time starts on Friday.

Don’t forget the $1000 you owe me😃
I could have had a bunch of comp nights and cheap weekend night a few weeks back but now it’s blocked off at full price so I’m reconsidering about going. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The shit they pull for a dollar has turned me off for quite some years now, especially after the money I stuck into different things there when I owned the pool room. I just felt shit on and used.

I felt the same about you, starting something and get pushed aside like a sucker because it took off and someone didn’t like it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Action Room was no more and used for tournament matches starting a couple of years ago.

The dining is pretty limited. I recall there's Binion's, the steak house, and then a Mexican and a homestyle walk up in the food court. They may have added a couple more.

The steak house has declined in quality steadily the past 6-7 consecutive years.

The food situation there is horrible. The ice cream joint is gone as well.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm planning to be there the first weekend so Jan 20 - 23 or so. I'm mostly concerned about seeing the bigfoot event. I'd love to get tickets as close as possible to that table without buying a 9-day VIP pass, but it's not clear how to do that. I definitely think the site could clarify what you get for what price. I'll probably end up paying for VIP each day and hoping that gets me where I want to be.

Never been, always want to go, it is Super Bowl of 9 Ball, Banks, and One pocket.

Book now should be great way to spend time watching best of best.
Do you sit here waiting for new posts to just blather something unrelated?

His post was as clear as it gets, but here you come like an irrelevant wrecking ball

You ever been to DCC or are you on the do not admit list?

I have, it's a blast

I read the opening post and immediately ran into a senile, off-topic reply. Lo and behold, it was our least favorite drooling Alzheimer's patient

We were just thru there a month ago and if the steak house was supposed to be where it always was…it’s gone…it was boarded up.

I’m not surprised at all. It was running at 50% in 18 & 19. Food was garbage as well. Was completely different than it was when Greg moved from the other hotel
