Standard Table Conditions Discussion

The old cloth on tables create minimum upper threshold to make sure shots have legs, the gameplay is well documented.

The new cloth does not have that minimum upper threshold. The changes to gameplay are well documented and a subject of controversy.

The emergence of pool is happening on the internet with data records never achieved in the sport.

I just want to argue bring back old table cloth into competition play. Slow nap cloth.

you forgot the ivory pool balls...... 😂 😂

If the virtual pool headsets are configured properly you can create even more interesting pool balls. On a virtual pool table the CPU and GPU of today's technology is painfully not anywhere it needs to be. Even the network needed for a global virtual tournament is about 5 generations late. Sensor technology doesn't have the sensitivity ready for this virtual future.

Its like everyone is sleeping on the job.

Do you want me to stream I upgraded the pool room to have full interconnectivity. This is the future you guys pioneered in on AZB.

Old cloth promotes learning minimum threshold power for strokes.

New cloth is about babying the stroke.

I concur... this and outlawing jump cues would force the cream to the top.

If you want jump cues banned from the game just make balls more dense.

Jumping balls off the table feels unnatural.

To solve the problem with old cloth perhaps a magnetized version of the old cloth and magnetized version of the balls would physically lock balls to the table.

Players facing these conditions would have to know direct and indirect hits. Jumping doesnt solve new problems, it just puts more and tear on equipment.

I grew up playing on the slow cloth, so I'm sensitive to the difference. It did take a better stroke to get around the table back then, so it's no surprise that Sigel, Strickland and Lassiter, who possessed three of the most powerful strokes we've ever seen, were among the first to dominate at nine-ball. There's no doubt that the advent of Simonis cloth leveled the playing field a little, but I feel the game is more exciting on Simonis cloth.

At Mike Sigel's insistence, the slow nap cloth was brought back for the 2006 IPT 8-ball series. In my opinion, it was a failed experiment and the slower cloth, given a chance to catch on once again, won almost nobody over. I don't think the slow cloth has been heard from since in major tournament play.

While certain aspects of play require a little more skill on slow cloth, pool is a better game on Simonis, even more so at the amateur level.

Trends are fashionable. The era of fast cloth and jump cues is huge and oversaturated the pool market.

A campaign to bring back old cloth and tougher table conditions could be part of the Billiards 9.0 approach. The main advantage of promoting the tough cloth is in doubling the number of ads for pool.

Simonis is fun to play on as a beginner. At some point players should learn to request the table with slow nap, just as much as the table with tight pockets or the bar table. A focus on table conditions can turn a player into a homeroom player to a well educated traveling road pro.

Thick slow cloth. Lasts longer in taverns.
Be sure to bring your Norelco!!
The lint picking competition will begin if slow cloth comes back.
Plus all the competition standard equipment has been broken and none of the rating systems indicate players are interested in higher level play.

Many know about dead money events and that is why more pool table conditions are being discussed. At least local players will feel like its their turn when their conditions are favorable for them to jump back into the pool. A slow clother has more muscle than a fast cloth player, how it plays out in competition could provide some fun drama to watch.

Trends are fashionable.
Fast cloth, in standard use for nearly forty years, is not a trend but an advancement to the game's equipment. One might call the automobile a trend, too and call for the return of the horse and buggy, but the automobile was a step forward and the horse and buggy won't be making a comeback.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out what this sentence means. Nor, for that matter, do I see any relevance of the jump cue, which would exist no matter what kind of cloth was in use.

You rule when it comes to competition conditions.
My lack of clarity in the second statement was directed at the great population of players competent with fast cloth and jump cue experience.

To promote slow cloth 2.0 it has to be programmable. A table which has varying levels of cloth speed.

If we are going with tech as advancements as analogous then digital formats don't change the fact they existed in physical medium first.

The benefits of a slow cloth 2.0 can also assist with racks and keeping them tight. I am not saying go back to cloth fibers made in the past.
I am saying rebuild slow cloth with the newest advances in production and materials.

I look at it more as making cars that are normally aspirated vs cars with fuel injection. No going back. Jump cues? Turbo chargers!

Dive bar thinking….the old slow cloth was there for the cheapness….and shooting on it was like clubbing baby seals.
The famous Rack had Granito cloth that was faster than 760 Simonis….and most of the better rooms had fast cloth.
You guys that talk wistfully about playing on those horse blankets wouldn‘t have been welcome at a decent golf course either, where they actually kept the greens mowed.

The old slow cloth is what will take some time for people to get past.

The new slow cloth will do what the old slow cloth does as well as the current fast cloth.

Slow cloth 2.0 in the off mode is slow, but when in the on mode can be even faster than today's fastest cloth theoretically. And the 2.0 cloth will ensure racks are tight and consistently in the same rack location with even greater precision than any ref.
