Mosconi Cup Team - USA

Earl has no business being on the team. He doesn’t play a full-time schedule like all of the other US mosconi hopefuls. Plus he’s a grade A clown who has no business representing the US, let alone pool. That said, it didn’t stop JJ (or more likely matchroom) from picking him last year so who knows.

As for Styer, my guess is he makes the team but have heard the rumblings of his clashing with the other team members. He has always struck me as someone whose persona and game doesn’t really line up. Comes off as a bit smug or arrogant in my opinion when up until this point he’s been maybe an average tier pro at best.

I don’t believe Styer is popular with some of the other American players who would be his potential teammates. His wild card selection is far from a slam dunk, imo.
I think that has changed. Tyler used to be kind of an unemotional kind of guy. Many mistake this as being a snob or antisocial or mean. But since he's met, fell in love with, and married Margaret Fefilova, he's different. He shows emotion and is friendly and has a warm herat. In fact, he has been playing nonstop and it shows in his performance. He's hitting 'em strong, practicing every day of the week when he's not competing in every event he can reach.

This might be a man's world in pool, but it would be nothing, NOTHING without a woman or a girl.

Team Europe, I like Joshua Filler, Francisco Sanchez, Fedor Gorst, David Alcaide, and Chris Melling based on Open performance.

3 picks are automatic, straight out of prize money rankings. filler, FSR, and probably albin. the captain has no say in that.

I'm not sure Albin will get there. I listened to an interview by Alex Lely who shared some thoughts about a lot of the European potentials. It was quite illuminating.

I’d love Mellings to be in but highly doubt it. He only did well at US open and Lechner had done better. He’s probably going to be chosen. And I think Fedor may have lost his wild card chance now. I reckon will still take Shaw

before semifinal number 2 i thought albin was for sure qualified. but he's hanging loose now, lechner still in with a chance. needs to win the final.

of course either of them could be picked as one of the two wildpicks. i doubt alex will pick lechner though, since it would mean two rookies

Styer is smug and arrogant. But not because he’s a bad guy…he’s competitive. Extremely competitive. I want that kind of attitude in a pool player that’s on the rise. He was trying to get Billy to play him a long race a while back and Billy was ducking him.

Styer is a perfectionist. To give you an idea of how meticulous he is, I’ve heard him talk about shooting pressure balls in between heartbeats.

If he could get up in form for no names like he does the big boys, we wouldn’t be having this conversation…Tyler would be a top player.

His fundamentals hold up under pressure. That goes a long way in the Mosconi Cup format.

Can you pass on a link to that interview, or do you remember what site it was on and roughly how long ago? Would like to check that out, thanks.

A bit of a gut punch when our second automatic qualifier is Oscar and then you see Europe’s is FSR. That’s no knock on Oscar, but jeez is Europe stacked.
Team Europe is cherry picked from separate private reserves; painstakingly distilled the old fashioned way. Generica is on "free country" with evolution gathering dust in the garage.

I feel like it's time to make a formatting change. I don't know exactly what but a change is due for several reasons. One, it's stale and two it's time for some woke-ness. Maybe make it six player teams with (2) she/her/hers, (2) he/him/his and (2) they/them/theirs?

You believe his stroke takes less than 1.2 seconds? Allen Hopkins couldn't even shoot between heartbeats.

It was very eye-opening what Alex Lely said about possible candidates for Team Europe, his thoughts about who to choose for Mosconi Cup. It was an interview by Joey Ryan and the two Mikes (Mike Molino and BD Publisher Mike Panozzo) on the "The People's Podcast."

I agree with some of his thoughts 100 percent about some of the possible names under consideration.

It is important to point out this interview happened September 12th of this year and BEFORE the Open. At the time, he had some thoughts about Austrian Albin Ouschan, but as we can see today, Albin has been chosen and will be on Team Europe for the 2022 Cup. I was really in agreement with him on a couple of his other thoughts.
