Missed the money ball. Why?

Just saw an old Mosconi cup clip of Rodney Morris SCREAMING at his teammate ( Justin Bergman ) hill hill money ball.

Rodney wanted Justin to shoot it before he has time to dog it. Dennis O. does that too. Justin asks for extension and Rodney yells shoot it here. Here’s the clip:

Rodney yells “SHOOT IT HERE”

I personally didn’t love that. Justin is not a freestroker, Rodney should have let Justin play his game.

Because you choked.. it happens to the best players in the world. Not long a go I remember the lion dogging and easy 9 ball against Shaw to win a big tournament. If he can do it so can you.

I literally mentioned the Lion in my og post thanks

Seeing Alex get rattled by the shot clock was painful.
Reinforces my belief in the importance of following the same protocol for all shots.
Watching Ronnie O'Sullivan in his latest World Champion victory, I noticed a strict adherence to his routine in every match and on every shot. He says he doesn't care anymore but his extended hug with Judd at the end was to hide his tears.

You can complicate it until you’re stressed. You took your eye off the contact point. Don’t do that anymore and move on

So there may be some truth to "just not seeing the shot!" That's insane.

Yes, and because it involves your mind as well as your eyesight, what happens can vary from time to time. It was crazy that I couldn't "see" the shot I have shot I suspect thousands of times! One reason I shot it was I didn't want my opponent to think I was playing games with him. It was a couldn't miss shot, or so it seemed. Jawed it and left him the hanger.

Talking to everyone about those who choke: Something else can happen too, chalking up the victory too soon! More than pool, I remember a pistol match. I was shooting eight inch steel plates at ten yards after shooting harder stages and everyone had already ceded me the victory. I was shooting a pistol with a red dot sight and I broke the shot as it settled on the plate only about an inch below the top of the plate. After I broke the trigger, I relaxed. My arms or whole body relaxed enough that in the split second, a few hundredths or less with the titanium and other lightweight components in the pistol, it had time for the barrel to float up before the bullet left the barrel and the plate still stood! Cost me an event but I never again celebrated too soon!

I caught myself getting a sense of relief that the "rack was over" when on the 9 a couple days ago. I missed it. All that work running balls just to not put forth the necessary effort. Kind of like a little puppy dog making a puddle from the excitement. ;)

I've not had much trouble with money balls in the past. Now that I'm running more balls it's tough to keep focus that long. Focusing on a 3 ball run is much easier than focusing all the way through 6 or 7 balls. I guess my old nemesis FOCUS needs additional training. Once I think I'm starting to get a hang on this game another aspect comes to bite me in the butt. I guess it keeps it interesting! o_O

It does seem like there is always one more thing to master in this game. When we finally get to the last thing on our list of what it would take to master the game we find one or more of our old issues have snuck back in!

When having issues with the money ball I have found just tracing the natural path of the cue ball with my eyes and selecting a place for it to stop helps. For something in sight you can toss a coin on the table. Other balls are OK but not really necessary. One thing you can do is play some twelve ball by the rules of nine or ten, whatever you are struggling with. Amazing how much difference a few extra balls make. I really think it is time for the pro events to be playing twelve or even fifteen ball events. I'm not adverse to seeing racks ran but I want it to be something special rather than seeming like if they make a ball on the break and see the next one they are out.

I just had a thought, make the game tougher but then add a reward for solving the problems. How about a prize fund to be split by everyone running a table on the break for a little extra first round excitement? Snooker usually has a sweet payout for running 147 points, often 25,000 pounds or euros I believe. One of the things about Ronnie O that made me chuckle. He found a tournament was paying "only" ten thousand for a perfect score so he quite maliciously ran a 146!

You might understand this. Long time ago I wondered what stupid errors were about and trying stuff to get over it. Anyway, long story omitted, take note of the number of balls you have in the out and make that a rhythmic phrase or passage. That way your being has something to relate to while you're off shooting pool.

Remember this when playing 9-Ball. The closer you get to winning the game is also the closer you get to losing it. ;)

Should be a rating factor. Every pro should have a Fargo dog number. :D
I searched. While there is no official highest Fargo rate possible, someone posted that the highest they ever found was 940.

So let’s set a theoretical highest at 1000. Dog rate = 1000 - Fargo rate. E.g. 640 Fargo is 360 dog. 😁

This is the first time I have ever heard that, I have to say I really like it. It is even more true when hacks like me are playing. I can`t begin to recall all the times I did all the work so my opponent could shoot in 1 ball and win.

This is why you choked.
You, like all of us, especially don't want to lose to an a-hole gloater.
You put extra pressure on yourself knowing that if you miss the easy out, that he would gloat.
Been there, done that (the choking and regretting part).
I'm so glad you joined AZ, now all I have to do is find your posts and I have all the answers 🤔
