Mosconi Cup Stats -- Career Records for Players on 2022 Teams

Spain has some islands. He's saying that two of the top Spanish pool players came from one of those islands.
America has some islands too, but we don't refer to America as an island.

Although...I stand corrected. Geography wasn't my strong suit in school.

Different question. Now we're comparing Shane to his teammates and not to the members of Team Europe. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if things reach 10-10, it will be Earl in the captain's choice match.
The question someone posed was whether Shane deserved to be on the US team. I was only answering that question, when you compare him to the other American players.

Yes, we all wish the USA would win, but since pool is global we've all become fans of Filler, Shaw, Kaci, Gorst, Albin, FSR, etc. and it kinda puts me in a bad place since I'm a fan of more euro players than USA players since they as a group simply play MUCH better. I'm a fan of watching the BEST players and unfortunately that is Europe.

Let's face it, if MC switched to 1 pocket- an American game - I would still bet on Europe, they simply play all games better. Straight pool would be an absolute slaughter
Same for the world Cup going on right now. Tons better European and South American soccer players than US. I'm sure there are TONS of U.S fans of Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, etc.

The level of play on average is far superior. (Much like Pool)

I have NEVER heard of a US fan going to a WC match and cheering for another team against the US team...probably wouldn't make it out of the stadium alive.

I imagine some Americans on here were cheering for the Russian Hockey team at Lake Placid in 1980.

I thought all the athletes themselves hated this country

You absolutely 100% DO NOT throw out his MC cup record, this is completely different than individual. I wish people like you would bet $1,000+ per match involving Shane in the MC cup.

Having a player that wins 40% of his matches is what makes no sense, and it certainly doesn't make any dollars
Prior to 2002, Barry Bonds had a postseason BA of .196, with 1 HR and 6 RBI in 27 games. People were calling him a choke artist in spite of his then-5 MVP awards.

Should the Giants have benched Barry Bonds for the then-upcoming 2002 postseason?

I think all these long marathon races have gradually made Shane less competitive in very short races. In a short race, especially the race to 5 that is standard at the Mosconi, your next mistake will often cost you the match. In a long race, you play hours and hours in which this is not the case, and there's much less pressure, because you've got time to recover from almost any error you make.
Too bad our two most promising players who could benefit the most from exposure to short race events pretty much completely skipped all of the CSI short race events.

It seems to me that Skyler and Shane don't really have the drive that would be required for a Mosconi Cup win. Personally, I wonder if SVB is waiting around to retire after getting inducted into the HOF. Not that I can really blame him. But, all pure speculation.

I think Sky has a baby, or at least a toddler as well. Certainly makes a difference.

Shane has had what 12 or 14 years. Some people never learn

Let's compare Shane's Cup performance with that of the other players on the team during the Van Boening era. Shane has played in the Mosconi Cup for 15 years now, 2007-2021.

Team USA's record in matches won and lost over that 15-year period:
singles -- 49-87 (winning percentage of 36.0%)
doubles -- 44-61 (41.9%)
teams -- 7-8 (46.7%)
total -- 100-156 (39.1%)

Shane's record over that 15-year period:
singles -- 16-25 (39.0%)
doubles -- 17-23 (42.5%)
teams -- 7-8 (46.7%)
total -- 40-56 (41.7%)

Team USA's match record over that 15-year period excluding Shane's matches:
singles -- 33-62 (34.7%)
doubles -- 27-38 (41.5%)
So, looking at matches in which Shane has played vs. those in which he did not play, Shane has done a little better than his teammates in singles (39% vs. 35%) and pretty much the same in doubles (42.5% vs. 41.5%).

If we count a full point for a win or loss in singles matches, half a point for a win or loss in doubles matches, and one-fifth of a point for a win or loss in the teams matches, we have a measure of the overall contribution of a player to the match scores:

Team USA's match record 2007-2021 -- 100-156 (39.1% winning percentage)
Shane's contribution -- 25.9-38.1 (40.5%)
Contribution of other team members -- 74.1-117.9 (38.6%)
The research and effort is very much appreciated. Well done!

Hasn't stopped Shaw. Problem in America is everybody wants to make excuses.
I seem to remember a couple years ago where Shaw didn't make it deep in any tournament not named Turning Stone. Even he said this year was like coming out of a dark place with his game. Besides, it is not an excuse. It is reality. Having kids changes things, differently for each individual, but changes do occur.

So where is Mosconi Cup available to watch?
FB
Anybody have timed they run it?

Everything changes things, some people deal with it, others make excuses
