Fargo question- could be a dumb one…

I heard an unconfirmed story, of a pro that was/is banned from certain events using the Fargorate. His crime (as I understand) was suggesting that he didn't try in small events. Something I could see a players ego saying. What if he is just making excuses.🤷
People do try taking advantage of the system. When Fargo catches them, they handle accordingly.

Gotta have a challenge. Watched Ronnie doing the fastest century.
Some players (perhaps myself 😉) have an affection for the feeling of being cornered. One shot for the money. So perhaps we get to situations in games with lower rates players.
Ronnie seemed to add the challenge to force focus. Hence they are rated a little low.
Perhaps Ronnie is just honing the razor.

I'm asking for people's opinions on the reason. I've been trying my best to make that very clear to you. You obviously don't have an opinion of your own on the matter. You just keep telling me to ask someone else. What do YOU think is the reason???

You said above "because they have zero chance of winning". That is not true given that the players around here believe in Fargo, and the Fargo rating can be used to handicap matches. Maybe they don't truly believe it works.

Here is deal I have up on tournament play, because after crunching numbers.

The time you spent 5 - 7 hours in small tournaments netted you less then minimum wage.

Then you had places that advertised guarantee add, but change that day of even. I ask one owner you advertised a guaranteed add. But now your not do add. Andre I got was that what we are doing. So I said done with that place.

I'll try one more time. I understand that it is up to the owner of the room or the TD. My question is "what is the reason for barring players if it's a fair contest"? Personal preference is not a reason. They don't make as much money is not a reason. If they don't make as much money, then do it. But WHY don't they make as much money since presumably they'd have more players enter the room. Are the lower rated players afraid to play even matches? Do they not think the matches are truly even?

Keep in mind, I don't expect you to have an answer. I've come to accept that from you by now. The question is for anyone else who may have an idea.

If the other players don't like it, and whoever runs the events knows the regulars, they will side with the majority of the people not a few that are excluded. I played in a handicapped event that at one point was all lower-level players. After a few months the guy running it opened it up to everyone. I was spotting everyone else, and still was finishing in the top few spots, after a while not many people showed up to play. A weaker player, even if the race is "fair" does not like to sit and watch someone run out on them, they want to be playing a few times a rack like they are used to when playing others their level. With fair handicaps the higher-level player still has a bit of an advantage, and it's defanatly not fun for the low-level shooter to just sit there watching the other guy make balls.

I'll let any 650 play the 9-ball ghost on a standard 9' Diamond and bet against him (or her). I'd say a player would need to be 700ish to beat the ghost consistently.
I'm 597, you don't happen to live near Maryland, do you?

I can see that. Seems like some people want fun, others want competition. Tat sucks but is the best reason I've heard so far.

Well you’re all about competition not bad thing.

But some people play for fun, to have Recreation. Like something more fun then the 40 hours they hate to pay bills.

If you’re so competitive why not work full time at pool, and be a pro player. Go for being best in world, that should be challenge enough to inflate competitive ego.

Might decide that is not great life.

Tournaments are supposed to be competition... Nothing wrong with playing for fun.

If you're a well-established 597, I'd let you play the ghost all day providing the table is not a joke.
Robustness about 900. 9 ft diamond at house, 4.5 in pockets, 860 simonez. My name is don, hit me up if your ever out this way.

There is no fair game between an advanced player and a B.
I used to give more than a few the 3 and out...and I'm not even shortstop.

Fargo can't capture the essence of matching up. If you go where people actually gamble at mass (SBE and Derby in the east), you will see guys you have no idea who they are giving big weight to decent players for real money. You will also see that usually they outrun the nuts.

As far as tournament decisions of a room owner or league op.....they are going to choose making 1 player mad by banning them versus killing they tournament. Very few open events left...and if there is one 80% of the players are Bracket Fillers. Same is true in pro pool.

That is a very true assessment.

We have one in community ever Friday, three buck entry, A - B player seams, 8 Ball Scotch Doblrs, no coaching. 24 -28 player each week. They pay 3, or 4 places. Competitive for some, fun for others.

One of the A’s is 94 years young., and plays well.

No more is making much money on winning team.

No normal pool room 🐂💩, drunks, thieves, sharking.

That's neat. But tournaments that have real entry fees and real handicapping are about competition. The people who cap them do not want the competition, they want to be the best. That's why we have 595 and under, 643 and under, 710 and under, etc. I wonder what the rating are of the guys who run those...
