Mosconi cup

Is the MC a tournament or a show.I do not dispute Earl,s ability in the past but his mental ability is not there. He is the only player whinning every shot ,he cant let a miss go. As Jimmy Reid said (no time for the negative) get over it Earl. This kind of circus stuff is why we dont have what Jay is talking about.Get some manners sportmanship ,standard rules and a real pool association (like P.G.A.) and maybe we could get sponsors and decent money for players.P.S. i agree with the statement about Jason Shaw,s disrepectful B.S.after the match Dont let the door hit you.Tyler and Skyler Shane keep grinding.

I think they have one more doubles match -- a fans' choice match. It was SVB and Woodward last year (losing to Shaw and Filler), but it's possible we could see Earl in it this year.
Tell me it ain’t so!

Matchroom loves gimmicks.
They should pick up pro cornhole and have a "Cornholio Cup".
Team USA's coach can be Beavis, "The Great Cornholio".
The winning side can receive a year's supply of "TP for their bungholes".
Sigh.

All and all Team USA has conducted themselves well, considering the circumstances. Everyone knew we were outgunned going into this conflict, the only question was how bad it was going to be. And here we are after three days trailing only 8-6 and very much alive.

Realistically I don’t like our chances from here but whatever the outcome these guys can hold their heads high. Playing only singles on the final day greatly favors the Euros imo. I know I’ve overused this word but it would truly be a miracle for USA to pull this one
out from here. At least we can dream.

For some reason I’m reminded of a BCA five man team I played on over twenty years ago. We had four very good players and one weak player, who happened to be our Captain. His name was Richard Mikesell (I want to remember him. He was my friend and he loved pool). Richard always organized strong teams and surrounded himself with good players. In a typical match Richard might win one or two games out of five played. The rest of us picked up the slack.

We won the league championship and went to the BCA Nationals here in Vegas, where we won our first three or four matches and were in the final 64 teams. Now we played a strong team from Texas and four of us went 3-2 W/L in games. Alas poor Richard got shut out 0/5 and we were eliminated. That was a major disappointment for all of us and our team disbanded after that year.

Somehow this reminds me of that very scenario, of course on a much higher level. Who knows what might have been with a better qualified player in the 5th spot on the roster? Perhaps the other four players would not have been so inspired to pick up the slack without Earl on board. Despite his shortcomings it is obvious to me the respect his team mates have for him. After all he may have been the greatest American player of all time, and he inspired all those who followed in his footsteps, including Shane.

Perhaps there might have been a better way to recognize Earl’s contributions to our sport, maybe making him an honorary co-captain. It has become pretty clear that the present day Earl does not belong out there with these elite players.

I hope that a miracle happens and he makes me eat my words. That’s what dreams are made of.
Richard was a nice guy. Played against him in league years ago. I was saddened when he passed away several years back.

Earl has his moments, but does struggle against the top players in the world. However, I have been impressed that he has kept his head on straight relatively speaking. He hasn't displayed any really bad behavior as of yet and has been mostly supportive of his teammates.

It isn't just him who is struggling though- Styer struggled with his break today, as did Oscar.

Skylar is playing almost perfect though and Shane has been solid too.

I think our best bet is to either develop the young talent or somehow convince Bergman and/or Dechaine to play more again as they are still relatively young- although Dechaine seems to have burned his bridges. They are probably the 2nd and 3rd most talented players in the US though with Skylar in the argument too.

All things considered, Earl's behavior has been decent overall- especially compared with his some of his misdeeds in the past. He has at least been relatively supportive of his teammates.

You are correct about him mentioning something every shot like the skid.
The problem, IMHO is his own team doesn't stop him right there and say Earl, we're past it, lets get on this next game.
"Ya but that ball"
"Earl, let it go, be the Pearl and run this out"

Jay, I did the exact same thing.
I always said, if I am the weakest player on the team, we will be OK.
Surrounded myself with the best around the state.
Did I have bad nights that cost us points, yep.
I also had nights where they were watching me ERO and make 8's on the break.
We never went to Vegas, but won our league, city, and got 3rd in state.

This statement supports the idea that you don't follow pool very closely., at least not current pool. No problem with that, but sometimes it is better to learn about things before bashing them.

Who was named player of the decade of the '90's? Could be a dude named the Scorpion....

Why are you so hung up on fundamentals? SVB is world Champion and is know for having an unconventional stroke. Keith Mcready had nowhere near perfect fundamentals, but he was unbeatable for a stretch.

Again, SVB=World Champoin 9 Ball. Sanchez Ruiz=8 ball Champion. Fedor Gorst=won more than anyone this year
SVB straightens his arm at the moment of contact. Still it causes him some bad misses. Basically he overcomes his bad fundamentals by sheer table hours. Keith Mcready was back when the tables had buckets, in a time when the talent pool was thin.
Sanchez Ruiz shows promise but needs to lesson his movement, and work on his 2 rail kick shots, as I mentioned in my thread about 2 rail kicks systems, and how a pro should not be relying on them.

I was sooooooooo looking forward to reading this thread this morning to find out who won, who lost. I was pleasantly surprised to read that Sky and Shane defeated Joshua and Jayson 5-zip. Woo-hoo! This thread doesn't seem to say much about that. Can anybody share what happened, the good, the bad, and the oh-so-ugly?

The topics of Earl being chose for Team USA, pocket size, and why Justin Bergman isn't chosen has been discussed thoroughly.

So is 2 matches down at the end of the day. Hoping today is better. I would love to read about the Sky/Shane v. Joshua/Jayson match but can't find much about it. Facebook, hnere I come.

oh great "railbird"....so where has it been discussed and why can't you just answer the question instead of spewing out useless fanboy dribble?

My absolute favorite moment of the day - Earl had ball-in-hand and was complaining that he couldn't reach the shot. Shane picked up the cue ball and moved it closer to him. Earl looked stunned.
Yes
A sort of tunnel vision.

Giving the #1 and #2 players in the world advice?

Much of the match is in the highlight video.

The odds are certainly against the US today, but why on Earth would they want Earl in the final match if it comes down to a decider? He's 0-2 in singles, and 1-3 in doubles.

I'll be happy to eat my own words, but it's not a good pick and makes me wonder how much control JJ actually had over the lineup.
