OB cues shut down?

Kinda doubt that. They might buy the name but they won't make cues here when they have state-of-the-art shops back in Taiwan/China. I was hoping it was OB that was taking over Meucci but that doesn't look to be in the cards.
The Chinese should buy Meucci and keep most of the designs and make quality cues in China.
I like a lot of Meucci designs but wont buy one because of their horrible hit and miss quality.
As far as OB goes I never had any interest in their products.

They just made me a custom cue a few months ago. The customer service (amy jones specifically) was top notch. The cue came out beautiful. A local cuemaker who changed my tip said my cue is very well built. Maybe I got one of the last custom OB's. I hope they dont close.

Dale came in to help with CNC stuff. Don't think that has anything to do here. I thought that after Mark Griffin bought in they'd move forward. I think they found out that making cues here in the US ain't cheap to do. It always boils down to the $$.

They were never bargain cues, and actually most of their models were no more expensive than some makers that were made in China. They had issues with quality control which I guess cost them sales, we got several shafts from them that were the wrong diameter by quite a bit, one or two had ferrule issues, one has issues with the splices not being smooth. I've always been a fan of the company ever since meeting Royce and a few other managers at trade shows and getting a few shafts from them. My goal I guess is now to get one of their Carbon shafts because that thing was nice when I tried it at SBE. As low LD as my Revo with much of the hit feel of a maple shaft.

I used to be a big Meucci fan bc I had a Mike Erwin custom years ago. I went to a large supply store for pool tables, cues, etc several months ago. I looked at their selection of Meucci's. I was very disappointed. The fit and finish on most looked terrible, lacquer chipping off around some joints. Just look really bad. Not like I remember. ☹️. The McDermotts didn't look to great either. Vikings and Lucasi's looked good though. My Dad had a Phoenix shaft and loves it. I tried the OB classic once and hated it bc of this awful ping sound it would make.

not beating up OB, never personally bought one of their products, but have shot with a few and thought they were decent.

However, to be honest... I've known of quite a few custom makers who when you order a shaft... your request for a particular shaft diameter they must consider it a 'guideline'... because it is nowhere close.

Customer service, is 2 things
1 - giving the customer what they want
2 - if you are not going to, telling them what you will do and the customer can decide if they still want to do the transaction

I get that some custom makers have certain specifications that they don't want to go outside of because they feel that is what gives their cues their distinctive hit... but be honest with your customer about that.

If OB was actually closing due to that, there'd be a lot of other people closing too.

I have a digicue blue. I dont use it much. I guess I am not stroking straight. Have to work on that.

I had one for a bit when it was being sent around AZB for demo/testing, found a funny thing about using it. Many players hated to use it since it unquestionably pointed out the issues with their game LOL It's like sour grapes, they put it on, thing went nuts with all the stroke flaws, they said "eh, I don't need it anyway, I play fine, it's too heavy to use" and continued to play at a C level.

I had a "tip steering" issue on almost every shot that I couldn't figure out. So out of curiosity I hit a few balls opposite handed and it went away. Quickly realized my grip was causing it. I haven't used it much since then, but that insight alone was well worth the price.

That's why I got the OB carbon fiber shaft after trying a few. It felt and sounded more like a wood shaft.

Hope they aren't going under. I like having them 15 minutes from my house.

If it's a lacquer finish, it's not a Meucci.
