The idiotic ball color change is now costing games. For the longest time we had a purple 4 ball, and an orange 5 ball. I guess on low def tv the 4 ball looked like the 6 ball so they introduced the pink 4 ball or the tv ball. That was fine. Then they decide that the 5 ball being orange is too close to the pink, so they decide to make it purple. WTF?

Why not just make the 4 ball purple again? This wouldn't have caused any issues, because all that has changed is the 4 ball went from purple, to pink, and back to purple again. The way it is now you have a purple colour that used to be the 4 ball now suddenly being the 5 ball. Absolutely ridiculous. Besides, if anything looks like anything on tv, the 5 ball looks like the 3 ball...so whats next make the 3 ball polka dots, and then a few years later make the 5 ball polka dots and make the 3 ball orange? lol


You can see what happened here, the pink 4 ball is out of his view up the table, and being hyper focussed his brain remembered the 4 ball as purple.



This is how it should be:

4 ball (pink or purple)
5 ball (orange)
6 ball (lighter green)

P.S kind of slimey for Shane to not let the kid know before he shot imo.

For a natural pool player at the pool table ball color usnt an issue. They know which ball is what and if they cant keep their mind on the game blaming the ball color is some low skill leaguer BS..

For the television viewers it's an issue, for true players it isnt.

That's garbage...the announcers say it has happened numerous times but this was the first on the tv table. To say its the players fault is just plain stupid. What is stupid is changing the ball colours. Hey lets just randomly change all the colours every year just to force people to buy more sets of balls.
 
If Shane would have stopped him and let him know that he was shooting the wrong ball, would that then be a coaching foul on Shane and Tate would get ball in hand?
 
It's his responsibility to know what ball to shoot.

That said, I agree that changing the numeric order of the purple ball is a pain. As a frequent pool viewer I am often confused when watching a match as I always always always see the purple ball as the 4 ball. Changing a color to something else entirely, like making the 6 grey, is fine I can adapt. But changing the order of a well-established color is just wrong.
 
Similarly in a match I was watching, I was told "watch it he's about launch the ball" and in the new rules it states:
Ball Jumped Off the Table
If the cue ball or an object ball is jumped off the table to prevent an object ball from counting toward the opponent's ball count, the object ball will go in the opponent's pocket and count toward their ball count and it is a foul and cue ball in hand behind the head string for the opponent.
Should I have informed him as a spectator? (I didn't)

I agree with everything but the last part. A player should get NO instruction….your actions will have consequences.
