On Day 5, you can tell that the cloth is a little more worn and the equipment is playing tougher. As we approach the business end of this event, this is good to see.
Yes, saw Albin miss a nearly straight in 3/4 table 8 ball shot in his hill-hill match yesterday which cost him. I thought he could get better / closer shape on the 8 ball than he did, but he played it safe figuring he would be OK. It was a shot he would figure to make at least 95%. I saw a few other players rattle some balls in matches that were dropping for them on previous days, particularly in the Melling - Ruiz match.

Alex might have felt a little deja vu here. Hill-hill match vs Jayson Shaw and he gets this shot on the 9...

In 2017, he missed nearly the exact same shot in the World Pool Masters under the exact same circumstances (hill-hill vs Shaw):

Both shots also required a lot of cue ball movement on the 8 ball to get position on the 9.

Man I thought Albin had the worst sad face in pool, Jayson’s new sad look away while his opponent is shooting is like a cry for help. Get these guys some zoloft!!j Jayson’s new nickname should be Teary Eye

9 have qualified for stage 2 so only 1 spot up for grabs
Sky is big favorite to clinch final spot but Melling, Luong and Earl still have mathematical chance to steal it from him

Last year, 18 points out of total 29 (15 in stage 1+9 in stage 2 +5 in stage 3) needed to qualify for last 4 semifinal/final KO.
That roughly means 9 points minimum needed end of stage 1 to have realistic chance of qualifying for last 4.
8 points or less is basically dead in the water. cos it requires winning more than 10 matches out of 14 (in stage 2 and 3) i.e. >70% win rate which is extremely difficult for such top fields. Win % will be low like Mosconi Cup

Shane scratched on the 2-ball at hill/hill and lost to Juszczyszyn. So Shane has a 7-7 record with one match left in this stage, against Pehlivanovic. It would be good for SVB to beat the points leader in that one.

What was Shaw crying about at the end of his last match? He was yelling something at the ref or his opponent?

Alex just developed a new break technique where he stops the cue with his face, and when Seo Seoa beat Earl 5-1 and asked for a hug, Earl refused. So… great event?

such a sweet girl. the ladies hug all the time when they play on the women tour, but i can see how in the heat after a match/loss you don't want to hug. awkward moment anyhow

That’s 2 of a kind, Earl and Jayson. It sounded like Earl said to her something like “you don’t want to touch me.” What a jerk.

As well they should. It's a Matchroom Invitational event that rewards regular participation and performance in Matchroom events.

Based on Fargo, Earl is the 78th best player in the world right now. I'm sure his Matchroom 9-ball ranking is not in the top 100 as he skips almost every Matchroom event. Matchroom can do as it likes with the wild cards, but Kaci would have been a better choice than Earl, who showed no form at all at the Mosconi.
Why in this world would you say that Stu, Earl carried more weight in the last Mosconi than anyone... Guy

An already good event is about to become great. Pehlivanovic's exceptional play to this point is surely the story and he looks like a near lock to reach the semifinals. Some of the big names are in trouble, with Shane in grave danger of being eliminated in Stage 2.

pehlivanovic is on one warning for unsportsmanlike conduct after the svb match
