Senior Center intruder (me)

Last week I signed up for a membership at a senior center because I can. Three tables. Two 9 footers and one Ten foot snooker. All brunswicks. I am hoping to cultivate some big table games not called 8 ball or 9 ball.. Today I played snooker with a lady who practically ran up to me last week. I am going to play her tomorrow too. She plays well.

For the most part the guys are ignoring me. I was watching one guy play 9 ball while waiting for my partner to return from her St Paddie lunch. He missed a couple of shots, looked over at me, unscrewed and walked out. Hope they warm up LOL. I am trying to angle for a golf game, some one pocket or 14.1. I guess I gotta be patient.

Maybe he thought you were waiting for a table. Do the regulars play four-handed? Try watching some of that. Maybe they'll teach you 1-and-15.

There seems to be a break in period with pool related items. A new room is no exception.
I bet with in a few visits you will be a familiar face and soon just one of the gang.

Although I don't live near by, I have noticed a senior center in the Denver area that I would try and go to if I spent more time down there. Inexpensive with nice tables, I have no problem going to the players rooms in that area and have many times but I would like to check out the equipment at that center also.

It is probably this place. But there are two I have visited. The other one was hopping but further away. Every table full and 3 or 4 guys came up to meet me. Another nice thing about this place is it is literally 45 seconds from a major pool hall. I am not worried and I am not one to horn in on other peoples business.

I explored this based on another member talking about the center up north and he was right. Those guys at that center steered me here. As far as Bob's comment, there was an empty table and my table was already set up for snooker. I was just taking a break. No ambiguity there but I am not worried and people will get to know me or not on their terms. It is a win to find the lady who played with me. She is enough of a snooker nut to have attended the Crucible!

I am a Senior Center pool player. Since COVID, most of the tables at the centers are a bit worn. Fortunately , the center in the next county over has four Brunswick 9 footers recently recovered in Simones 860. There is open play where all are welcome, on Tuesdays there is a round robin tournament.

Look around and hang in there. A big box of donuts will also help.

I was a player back in the day…then quit for forty years Now I have won the area Senior Olympics Gold Medal in 8 ball and 9 ball for the past two years in my age group.

I have 2 nice senior centers very close by. It's been a few years since I dropped in when I was of age. Table time was almost free. Unfortunately the 3 tables at each center were 8' furniture style tables with worsted cloth that do nothing for me since I play on GC's with 860 ...if they were GC's I would be over a few times a week

Good luck with your adventure and have a nice weekend

When the guy missed, unscrewed, and looked over at you...did you say hello and introduce yourself? Maybe you need to start the conversation...

Greeley, CO has a terrific Sr. Center for cue sports. 3 or 4 pool tables, 2 10 ft American snooker tables, and 2 heated 3c tables. Tables are recovered on a decent schedule of rotation. Pretty welcoming, particularly the 3c players. Regular golf games. The pool games of choice are 9 and 8 ball with a smattering of one pocket. Never noticed anyone playing 14.1.

I hated to move away - now the nearest 3c table is an hour away.

I did not. Introvert... I talked to him and his buddy briefly today. They even set out the snooker balls before I got there. I brought a shaker bottle and played a little bottle pool. My snooker partner did not show. When I got home I saw she had texted me and was waiting for a text. We corresponded briefly and rescheduled for next week. Another guy that was playing pickle ball stopped by to say hi. I played him a few games before his 14.1 league match. I think it will all work out.
