Ps. Anyone have the lnk to the step searing had up here a while back? User bbb i think

Cut off tip
Face ferrule
Scuff w 240
Clean w DA

Prep tip
Sand back w 240 in figure 8
Drops of glue to wick back of tip/sanded side
Wipe off
Let dry
Sand again figure 8 till glaze of glue is gone almost just about down to leather

Install tip
Blue painters tape around and up to top of tip pad- less cleanup
Install tip w glue
Pressure for a bit
Let dry
Cut tip down

There might be some things im missing. If anyone can find the thread where dennis lays it out id appreviwte!

Goodnight everyone!

IMO you have the installation written correctly. I don't scuff the end of the ferrule, just make sure your lathe is set up correctly to get a flat surface perpendicular to the axis of the cue.
I don't use any tape on carbon fiber shafts. Even painter's tape can pull the coating off of some of them.
YMMV

yikes. not even to mask off up to the vault plate? id be hesitant to get even a drop of CA on the shaft. But i guess i could just use CA remover. Are there different, better or less sticky tape that can do the same function of masking off. Trying to cut out unnecessary cleanup on tail end of the install.

rack runner, Howdy;

Old painter's trick was to swipe the tape across your pants leg to reduce the amount of tackiness.
Try it on something that has little value to see what I mean.

Plumbers tape works fine for me. A little difficult to work with but I only use it on CF shafts so not a huge inconvenience.

One thing I would add; I contacted Henkel Corporation when this issue came up before. They recommend that both surfaces to be glued should be roughed up first. They said this allows for better adhesion. Henkel makes Loctite CA products.
P.S. I should also note that I’ve had a couple of “bad” bottles of Loctite Gel Super Glue recently. Even after 15 minutes the tip or even a polycarbonate disc would pull right off as the glue was still liquid! These were new bottles opened less than one week.

Dry fit the tip making sure that it's level and does not wobble. Anytime that I've had an issue with a tip falling off the tip/ferrule was not level.

As KGoods mentioned, teflon plumber's tape will work, but I find it difficult to apply. I have a tip centering device that holds the tip while the glue sets. As soon as I set the tip against the ferrule, I do a quick wipe around to clean off any excess glue.
Players get pretty protective of their $$$$$$ CF shafts and expect that they'll look as good or better when they get it back from you as when they gave it to you. You don't want to be buying them a new shaft.
Of course, you do what you think is best.

ya of course. ive also used the slightly less tacky plain tan masking tape.
ya i can imagine plumbers tape might be a little tricky to apply. and yes. roger that. do not want to damage my own, let alone a customers shaft.
