When to replace cloth

I've been mostly a lurker on AZB forums for years. Now I have a question. How do you decide your table cloth needs to be replaced? I've seen many discussions of what cloth to use, but not so much on what condition of the cloth made you decide to do so.

I have a 7' Diamond professional in my basement. Bought it new in January of 2019 so it still has the original cloth. The cloth has burn marks, but doesn't seem to have excessive wear. I play for a few hours 4 or 5 times each week. From other posts it sounds like replacing the cloth is a little bit of a gamble depending on who you get to replace the cloth. I don't believe I need to replace my cloth yet, but I would like to hear from others what prompted them to replace theirs.

The way you ask, uh wait a minute. Can you hold? I have the Joneses on the other line.
 
I had Simonis 760 on my table for 9 years.
Sure it has lots of pock marks, and a few burns, but as long as the balls roll true--I will keep playing on it.
The only reason Simonis 760 is not currently on the table is because the house it was in was raised, it is in storage, awaiting its new home to be compled. Then it will get new cloth.
 
Depending on what cloth you have, I'd say you have a few years left if you're taking care of it.

My Simonis 300 is 3 years old??

Don't plan to replace for another 3 or 4 years.

I take care of my table mind you.

This is a Home Table, Correct??

You’ll know when to replace it. Burn marks are character marks. The cushions on my 12 year old GoldCrown turned to stone. The cloth was still good but I had it replaced with the cushions/rails.
Unless it gets damaged or unplayable no reason to be changed unless table is moved.

You are probably good for another year or two. For many, it’s a matter of priorities, what you can afford and/or how much you might be spoiled by playing on newer cloth. Another factor is knowing if you have a qualified table mechanic you can trust to do a great job.
 
I have a great table mechanic, and i play every day on my diamond 7 footer. I keep my cloth in great condition, cleaning once a week, wiping down with a hot towel, and clean spray. I like to replace once a year. 240 to replace the cloth, and 275 for new cloth. 500 bucks a year is good for me to spend to get a perfect playing cloth.
 
It seems like pool halls around here get at least 6 months out of their cloth, and yeah, it's a little past its prime, but still has some life left. They seem pretty busy, I wouldn't be surprised if the tables see 40 hours a week of play or more. If you are practicing at home, you are probably shooting more shots per hour than the average game though.
 
If holes or visible scuffs appear in it, it is time to change. Otherwise in time it can get super slippery, and draw shots become difficult, which can be another reason to change. You can also extend its life by using donuts for repetitive shots you do in practice, and a small piece of cloth underneath the cue ball when you practice jumps or breaking.
 
It works both ways. Depends on distance between cue ball and object ball, and what stroke you have.
