Poolgame: Kill the King

So here's the opening, I place the 1: https://pad.chalkysticks.com/15050
As an experiment I will place my King early: https://pad.chalkysticks.com/5ee9d
Pin: Also as an experiment, I place my king here: https://pad.chalkysticks.com/d6ce2

My last ball: https://pad.chalkysticks.com/0e6cb

If you'd see it on video you'd be surprised how easy it is. I just feel the need to be complete 🙂

1. First you buy balls.
2. Then you place them + King.
3. Each turn you can place a ball OR shoot. After you did either, it's the opponent's turn.
3a. If you place a ball: take one from your queue and place it anywhere on the table.
3b If you shoot: you can only pot an enemy with an equal number or lower.
4 kill the King by potting it. Only the kingslayer, the assassin or the opponent's King can do this.

That's it 👌
post a video if one is available.

I hope this works! Please use this last URL (a726c).

Also another question: I announced it not being my last ball. But should I? Do you have to announce or could I just spontaneously decide to leave it like this when it's my turn again? Personally id think a player does not have to announce. You can just decide youre done, given that your King is on the table. That adds an interesting choice and strategy. Also an incentive to place your King early.
Edit: I will place another ball though, but if I had the option to not do it, you'd have to defend the 6 in this move.

I agree with you, it's good to be able to just decide when it's your turn again. The more secrecy the better!

For spectators: all rulles of the recruitment phase
For the recruitment phase we have 11 points to buy balls. The cost of a ball is equal to the number on the ball. The King is free. Balls can only be placed on your own half of the table. The 8 is a neutral ball and is placed in the center. The last player to place a ball does NOT start. If you don't spend all your points you can reorder* your recruitment queue (balls that have not been recruited). If you don't have a point to spend, they're sorted in numerical order from weak to strong.
Before placing our first ball we messaged our ref Tomatoshooter which ball is the Assassin: a secret Kingslayer.

DaWizard: 11 - 1 - 3 - 0 - 5 - 2 = 0 points left
Pin: 11 - 3 - 6 - 0 - 2 = 0 points left

Neither of us has points left to reorder our reservist queue and Pin is to start, since I was the last player that placed a ball.

So that concludes the recruitment phase, and that got us to this position:

From here on the player has two options:
1) make a shot (preferably pot an enemy ball or shoot balls in a more favorable position)
2) recruit the first ball in line from the reservist queue (Pin places his on the right half, I place mine on the left)

I bank the 2 for the corner but miss :( https://pad.chalkysticks.com/67aad https://pad.chalkysticks.com/3b032

[Edit: I've tried twice and both links click to a blank screen for me. Do they work for you DW? If so you can take either for the next shot, or if they don't I'll try again later on, when any chalkysticks issue might have been fixed.]

I shoot your two and draw into the 3 (to freeze it next time): https://pad.chalkysticks.com/77690

You sank my assassin. I think the original rules about re-nominating don't quite apply now. Personally I like the idea of no re-nomination (it's simpler, and a player will always be able to use their king, so technically don't need a 2 or assassin). But if you want different rules just say.

Walking back to my seat, I feel annoyed with myself about my 6-ball, but it could be worse...

I think snookerpool is starting to sound intriguing
With all the 2s, 3s, 7s etc, I reckon? I could see. The similarities with chess are much more striking though! Having to set up a position (opening), some balls (pieces) being stronger, material advantage vs positonal advantage, the King being the goal, and more.

So I was thinking: chesspool.
Hmm with the assassin this game is a bit more toxic. How about Cesspool? Without the H. Because we'll be shooting H! Hmmm 🤔

I feared a jumpshot from your 2 on my king. It would be a really tight and difficult one that I couldnt make in real life, but maybe it's possible? There's no foul, you couldve tried, but at the same time risk leaving your King wide open. Hmm maybe not.

Yeah with the the "no return of balls" I assumed losing the assassin is a definitive loss of the assassin. But you did not have to disclose the loss, to at least keep me guessing. I too think it's simple to not renominate. Good point, this is not yet formalised in the rules.

The shot didn't occur to me, but I don't think I'd have made it

Yes, not disclosing it would be smart, and it helps keep the opportunity to 'bluff'.

I recruit the 9-ball: https://pad.chalkysticks.com/ed044
