Question about 1974 US Open straight pool tournament.

That was the year Balsis won. Does anyone know the exact dates of the tournament? I have been looking but with no luck.
Thanks
If you go to the AZ Billiards home page, there is a link called the Goldmine. If you click on that, you have access to nearly every National Billiard News printed. There are several articles about the tournament and in the July 1974 issue there is an add for it. August 5-10.

If Correct that confirms a memory of mine. I was just watching the movie "All the presidents men". I remember being at the US Open and them stopping the matches to make an announcement. They said that president Nixon had just announced he was resigning. On Aug 8th Nixon announced he would resign the office the next day at noon. When you get my age you sometimes begin to doubt your memories.

I've heard a lot folks futilely waited for a similar announcement during all of 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 while spectating pool events.

Like prez adios lightning is going to strike twice in the same kind of environment.

Is that the event that Rempe missed an easy 6 in the side to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

Yes, I was sitting a few feet away. Rempe almost fainted as he took his chair. I think it was a 9 ball he missed. He lost 200 to 199. The same day earlier the ladies match came down to 100 to 99.
By the way, Balsis made a tough shot from the end rail and ran out. He needed like 17.

Yes, it was in 1974 that Rempe missed game ball for the World Championship. He missed the nine ball. He was interviewed some twenty years later about it and was asked "do you think about that moment often?" Jimmy's memorable reply was "every day".

I always remember Rempe for his great taste in clothing. He was, perhaps, the Kim Davenport of the 1970s in that regard.
