The sensors in the link at the bottom are likely not calibrated, but they are relatively inexpensive and certainly can serve as good indicators. I worked with my friend who had inherited his father's HVAC business (mostly 1-man stuff), and he just could not figure out why these kept showing "Wet". He finally said I'd have to call someone else. I knew the President of a top-rated engineering firm here, and he recommended an HVAC company that specializes in these sorts of things.Might have to check into this. There are 3 large Train Heat Pumps controling the temp in the house and thought that was also to control the humidity factor as well. Basement area is around 3000 sq feet finished and not seeing the problem anywhere else in the house, just in the game room. Might should have my heating and cooling folks come look into this . Thanks for that
They came out and immediately knew what was wrong. They said all the brand new equipment installed 2.5 years earlier by my friend was wrong for the house. Had to replace everything, include the brand new ducts and registers. Everything has been perfect since. My lawyer handled everything with a demand letter to my friend to avoid having to sue in court. His insurance paid right at the full, requested amount. I had lots of documentation.
So, below is a link to the temp/humidity sensors from Amazon that I used. You can place the 3 sensors around the basement and get an idea of what is going on. You just need the big picture. If it's wet, it's not going to make a big difference if it's 65% humidity or 80%. Either reading would require some sort of action.
