WCBS Multi-discipline Championships, Ankara, July 2023

Format and scoring
Scoring is bit unconventional here 3 points for win, 2 points for tie/draw (yes there can be draw 6-6 cos they play maximum 12 racks in first 3 days) and 1 point for loss- more common scoring is 3 points for win, 1 point for tie/draw and 0 point for loss.
Basically they value tie/draw and participation here more cos you still get 1 point even if you lose so no one gets a duck
Here a win is worth 1.5x of draw whereas in other scoring systems, a win is 3x value of tie/draw

Looks like a good format to me.

The tournament is running now. Here is the website. I don't know whether the results are live or not...

Edit... Well, it appears that all of the matches are being streamed live. Time zone is a little problem but it's on YouTube so I can watch it when able if I don't catch it live.

Eight streams for eight tables.

I watched some of the carom and enjoyed it very much. Tried to watch the ten ball, but call shot ten ball is not something I much enjoy and the first time someone called a shot, I tuned out.

The viewership numbers are interesting:

It' equivalent to 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Everyone just gets 1 additional point for playing. Presumably, if your opponent defaults on a match by not showing up then you will get 3 points (2+1) and they will get 0 (0+0).

Current FargoRates for the 6 men's pool entrants:
808 He
788 Juszczyszyn
783 Soufi
775 Alawadhi
737 Clark
734 Lombardo
Just one of the world's top fifty is here based on Fargo. One must guess that the top players all turned down an invitation. None of the 24 who cashed in 10-ball's only significant event, the World 10-ball, are participating in the pool events. World 10-ball champion Kaci, of course, would have played Heyball had he not been injured, but it shows just how little thought went into the staging of the pool portion of this event.

With none of the top 24 finishers from the World 10-ball and just one of the World Top 50 in the field, it puts a damper on the pool portion of the event, although not as big a damper as the inclusion of 10ball over 9ball. That said, all the respect in the world to those who did accept the invitation to participate and wishing the best of luck to all of them.

All that said, I'd like to see this event which, for now, has the distinct feel of an impromptu exhibition, do well, as a cross-discipline cue sports event is a good idea whose time has come. I think WCBS is on to something here and I applaud their innovation as much as I question their execution.

Those stream numbers are interesting. I do believe Carom is probably the most spectator friendly of all the disciplines.

Can anyone locate where to see the scores and how each team (and individual) are doing?

Men's carom is dominating. Maybe because it is being played in Turkey, a big carom country? Or maybe because of the number of top players in that section.

i would think it's the latter. no equivalent of dick jaspers in the pool or snooker groups

There was a previous WCBS attempt at organizing this kind of event, maybe around 2017. It didn't happen. Looking at the venue and the list of referees, it's clear that Turkey as the host country has put a lot of time/money into the event. And great kudos to Poland for arranging to stream every match, as they did for the 2017 World Games.

After 2 days and 10 team matches, frontrunners for semifinal spots are Europe A, B and Asia A, B.
Europe A beat Europe B and Asia B who beat Asia A who beat Europe A- merry go round amongst these 4 and nothing much to separate them yet.

In terms of team wins-

Asia A- Played 3 , Won 2 Lost 1
Europe B -Played 3, Won 2 Lost 1
Asia B-Played 3, Won 2 Lost 1
