Do you like to watch bad pool games?

We see this the same way, Matt. I like a great story, no matter who is writing it. The truth is that in about 75% of the matches I watch, I don't root for either player, just for great pool and for something memorable.

I'm intrigued by all the things you've mentioned, especially the Skyler angle. I'm just as curious about when the best young players will break through ---- Zielinski and Pehlivanovic have both won silver at a major, but are they ready to take the next step? Are young, promising players like Souto, Neuhausen, and several others ready for a deep run. Chua wowed us all at the WCOP --- is he ready to contend for a major title? I also wonder which of the 45+ players (Immonen, Souquet, Pagulayan, Feijen, Alcaide, Deuel, etc.) can make a deep run.

There is always somebody writing a story at the majors, and it's a joy to behold.

Will you be at the US Open in Atlantic City, Matt?

I did drop some of the low hanging fruit in terms of stories. Most of the players have a thread to follow when you get a sense of them. Even the next few tiers down.

I’ll get there one of these years. The wife booked us for Hawaii at Christmas so I’m trying to keep the finances tight so I can do Mosconi Cup again next year.

If you mean pros playing 9 ball where they airstroke 8× get down on the shot only to stand back up so they can airstroke 6× more before they decide to walk all the way around the table only to repeat the process no that is almost as bad as you reading this. 😉
That’s why I‘m a bit partial to Filler….he’s a little slower now…but what he does is sensible.

Efren spoke of learning from the fluke shots that absolute beginners made. He would note and then practice the shot at his next table time. I think that was at the time that he slept under the table. 🤷‍♂️
Watchimg Stephen Hendry play Ronnie O'sullivan is my ideal match to watch.

I like to watch a match where the pro's don't get out every time. A bit of a struggle, then overcoming it. Not "bad" pool, but not perfect pool either
Imperfect pool tends to have a better "plot", if you know what I mean. Watching Sigel go 150 and out is interesting because it's an achievement, but seeing guys trade runs of 30 is exciting. I like to see the lead change, or at least some real threats.

I use to enjoy watching bad pool games, I had a favorite player and would enjoy the game if he or she won. Then about ten years back I made up my mind that I'm going to find a good player and game combo and start watching. Well I found some Taiwan and Japanese players and games I liked. Thats been ten years now and I have never been disappointed and gone back to bad pool games. This last 2022 Mosconi Cup, I watched the last set Jayson vs Shane, that was some bad pool. I've seen many first years players that could beat any of those games... Guy
And I don’t like seeing bad postings on AZB. Yours, for example.

Another top player who has said he learns new shots from beginners is Semih Sayginer.

What I can't stand to watch is a player who has no plan or concept of the game. Three stop shots will get them out and they're fretting over their dire situation. Well, and the air strokers. Get on with the damned game!

I usually will continue to watch top players who are struggling to see if they can right the ship. It's drama.
