Gold Crown 5 Review - Poor Quality, Poor Design, GC5

I'm pretty sure the bubble is a manufacturing defect, either no glue or there was some sawdust there that stopped the glue from adhering. I agree that if that many people have a problem getting the corner castings flush or nearly flush with the tops of the rails, the design should probably be improved. I'm not familiar with what's underneath the castings, but some are pretty egregious.

I know Brunswick was still selling some 5's after the 6 came out to deplete inventory.

As far as installers, I think almost every GC I've seen, regardless of generation, has had the corner castings all wonky, sticking up, angled, etc. Some are better than others, but they are all not great, IMO. To me, that means a design issue. A great design makes it easy for the installer to do his job better.

Bullshit, I don't care how great a pool table design is, a hack will still screw it up!!!

Why aren't these pocket ears curved away from the pocket casting, if they're all like that?

I have a GC1 and none of the above problems. Maybe the craftsmanship has also become broken and material used is of lesser quality, Sometimes maybe older is better.
 
I have always felt the GC IV was Brunswick's best ever GC. I loved mine. Well made, pockets flat with the top of the rails, etc... Sold it for a new Diamond Pro Am, as that is what most play on around here for tourneys etc... But still a superior table imo.

To bad they can't get the left and right pocket miter angles to match, never have been able to, clear back to the Anniversaries and Centennials!!!

Those corner castings and pockets look just like a GC6 at the Brunswick dealership showroom. A BIG GIANT NO THANKS. I take the Diamond Professional.

Yeah. I recall a member here got a brand new GC6 and it was the same.

There are not a lot of 5’s out there, and way fewer 6’s. By the time the 5’s came out Diamond was the first choice for commercial rooms.

Does anyone even know of a commercial room with 6’s in the states? I know there is one in Japan.
