The Mosconi Cup is pretty much the Ryder Cup for pool. The Ryder Cup originally was United States v Great Britain & Ireland. They then expanded to make it the US v Europe. The Mosconi Cup follows that format. The United States v Europe. Now since this is solely a Matchroom event and the format has evolved over the years, I assume they can tweak the event however they see fit.
Yes, but as for which countries are in Europe, this is pretty well defined except for two cases. Russia is physically in both Europe and Asia. It is included in the 44 European countries. Turkey is physically in both Europe and Asia, with part of it's largest city, Istanbul, in Europe. Most of it is in Asia, however, and that is where it is usually listed. Turkey has applied to join the European Union.
True that does present a bit of a "uncertainty". I have several friends from countries in South America that consider Mexico part of Central/South America because of culture (one from Columbia told me she was taught that in school) even though it is technically on the North American continent.

Sometimes people don't pay attention to the nice, neat divisions that geographers make. The "natural" boundary between Asia and Europe is kind of murky. Panama is the obvious division of the Americas but language says otherwise.
A history professor of mine argued that the Europe/Asia border was set for primarily race reasons - based on the observable ethnic differences across that range.
The second argument here is that India/Pakistan isn’t considered a continent despite the fact that its geographical border with China is just as challenging as the geographical border between Asia and Europe in Russia, and ethnic Han Chinese are easily distinguishable from ethnic Indians.
So the compete argument is that pre-20th century scholars felt the need to ensure that a white European “continent” existed, and they did so using geography. But, that same logic wasn’t used everywhere where similar geographic constraints existed and different ethnic characteristics were also present.
the definition of europe was made already by the ancient greeks, 2600 years ago. it doesn't differ much from today. and the greeks, while racist, wasn't racist in the sense black/white. it was rather greeks vs barbarians, and the barbarians were often other europeans.

The UK left the European Union. Should they be included in Team Europe? Why shouldn't Canada, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico be included in Team USA? It is Matchroom's baby and they can do anything they want. I don't have a problem with that.
Not clear why this is relevant. Would you make Kaci ineligible because Albania is not a member of the European Union? The European Union is not Europe.
It is relevant because it is not clear. Matchroom does not have a clear list of who can be included in team USA and who can be included in Team Europe. This gives Matchroom the leeway to grow the Mosconi Cup in many directions and so far they are doing an excellent job. This could grow pool exponentially, being what we have hoped for with the game we love.
