Does someone know for fact how many votes were up for grabs? I'm counting 6 "Continental Members". I also believe the WPBA (Women's pro org) might have had a vote. And I also heard Kelly Fisher might have had a vote representing players (men and women). Do some of these members get 2 votes, and some 1? I heard the ACBS gets 1 instead of 2, because they are a new member and provisional still.

I wonder if MR has the financial strength to go all out and just buy this win, i.e., break open their piggy bank, temporarily boost prize money way, way up and increase the number of events. Probably a pipe dream, but if they could, they'd either get more cooperation from WPA or render WPA irrelevant.
And Thorpe was banned 2 years ago for failing a drug test, with the WPA screwing that up as well and having to reinstate him.
It’s hard for me to think of anything the WPA has successfully managed in the last 5 years.
They also partnered with that crook in the Philippines in about 2012 that ran off with the money. I can't remember his name, I think his last name started with an M.

Also playing devil's advocate, this list might not even be legit. It could be some random Joe Shmo wrote it and filled in everyone's name.
According to what I have heard, that's not how things went. I believe that the WPA did not act badly in that case. Maybe they should have thought of a "Drug Testing and You, 101" for the players but given that the had to implement tests, it was not done badly. It did catch some players by surprise, that's for sure.

I don’t remember the details, but I thought Billy got his suspension dropped because the WPA didn’t follow its processes for bans and appeals. But I agree that the Thorpe dispute is nothing compared to the Russian ban or the current ban.
No one is banned currently from anything.
Fedor, as all Russian players, were banned a couple years ago, but are back in as of this year.
The only really big losses here for most top players seem like the three world championships. Otherwise there are a ton of events from Matchroom and others that they can use to fill their schedule.

So far as I can tell from the WPA constitution each of the seven continental confederations appoints two council members and so in theory there are 14 possible votes cast on any issue. It's on the WPA website. There is -- not surprisingly -- no current continental confederation representing Antarctica, so there should be only 12 votes total. There are "provisional" members that get one vote rather than two but I don't think there is one right now.
The big winner is the ACBS they effectively played politics and force players to go solo or stay true to the federation.

One failed test and they gave him an interim suspension until a ruling was made. WPA used POLADA to administer the ruling on a suspension and it languished in the bureaucracy that lasted a full year. Eventually they let him play again because it was taking too long, just to turn around and finally get a ruling back from POLADA which reinstated the suspension for more months. It was an utter failure of due process and clearly harmed his career. They should have stood up for him and argued his “time served” satisfied the POLADA ruling.
It shows that any event sanctioned with the WPA will carry the WADA-compliance anchor with it and they can’t be trusted to execute it effectively. It’s an example of where Matchroom without the WPA can implement drug testing more effectively itself through the WPNPC. So while the Russian ban is a great example of WPA’s irrelevance, the Billy situation was an example of their ineptitude.
