Matchroom Major event -Hanoi Open (10-15 October),Vietnam, Winner $30K

After mini comeback v Lechner in last 16 match earlier, an excellent comeback by Ko from 3-8 down to win 7 straight racks 10-8. This was despite subpar performance in first half- not making 1 ball on the break often, uncharacteristic botched misses
Turning point was this missed 9 ball by Kyle to get on hill while he was leading 8-5.
Ko is the man to beat and slight favorite to snap this title off but no one has won back to back MR majors in same year before:LOL:

Not impressed by Shaw celebrating Fedors miss! That’s an ok move , maybe, in the Mosconi cup but pretty poor here.
I think Fedor should have let him play them out though, would have been funny if he had then miscued on one of them!
Didn't look like Gorst made the move to concede. Looked like Shaw came over then suddenly they shook hands and it was over. Maybe Shaw came over so Gorst decided to concede. It's water under the bridge:LOL:

Are any Americans watching this live? I'm on the East coast and can only get about 30 min at night before falling asleep. For some reason, I just don't want to watch replays. Maybe I'll make an exception for the Efren match.

Efren still playing with a Predator break butt with a Z2 shaft. The painters tape covering the logo is now gone. Still no Predator sponsor on his shirt. I wonder if this is the longest he's played with a cue? I think its been 3 years?

I'm surprised his match has no commentary.

Matchroom is likely incensed by Quoc's decision to sit this event out. Quoc, the only Vietnamese player in Top 100 based on Fargo, has been the poster boy for the rise of pool in Vietnam and surely has a lot to do with Matchroom's decision to produce an event in Vietnam. Imagine if FSR and Alcaide had skipped the Spanish Open.
I think Matchroom's decision has been vindicated by the reaction on the ground to the Hanoi Open. Hoang Sao ("Quoc" as you call him) has indeed been the poster boy based on his results in Matchroom events eleswhere but I think the Vietnamese contingent equipped themselves pretty well in this tournament.

agree, both players and fans have had a good showing. hoang sao means hoang (the) star, or stellar hoang if i understood it correctly. i'm sure he'll be back at some point

I think Gorst got sharked, you can hear someone yell in the crowd during the middle of his last stroke.
From what I heard on Facebook, that was the REFEREE yelling out 5 seconds, right in the middle of Gorst's stroke. I mean, seriously.. Who TF is training Matchroom refs?

You can also hear him say, "10". 5 seconds before his shot. But when he yelled 5 it seemed a little louder maybe facing towards Gorst.

I also don't think Gorst intended to concede. He was just frustrated and was like screw it.

At one point after America got whooped at a Mosconi Cup Matchroom did announce an Asia vs Europe contest, I want to say it was going to be called The Dragon Cup. I have to do some digging...

guess I'm up early to watch the final
730am est for me and will have to skip tonight's semis

the matchroom live subscription where im at for $5 does not archive these matches as opposed to DAZN which runs $30

You may be thinking of a Charlie Williams attempt. I think he was calling it King's Cup. I may be misremembering also:)

That's how it's supposed to be. When it's the "beeps" do they pause the beeps if the player is mid-stroke? The ref should do the same. Announce "10", and "5", no matter what.

Thanks for that suggestion! I think that's the only thing that will work for me personally. I've been catching just a few min at night before falling asleep, and waking too late in the morning. I'll set my alarm for 7:30 or 7:40 and catch the finals. I expect there will probably be 25 min of introduction/summary before the lag.
