Southwest Cue order wait is over

That's probably why you see so many butt ugly SW cues for sale. When the time finally comes people have sticker shock and end up getting what they can afford not what they really want. Pretty sad if you think about it.

It's funny too, even the ones that look like K mart cues get oohs and aahs. No one dares tell the truth and butt hurt someone who just had their dreams shattered.
I totally don't understand anything your saying except you don't like Southwest cues. I've owned about every cue out there ever made except yours.
It certainly is my money that I'm using to buy it so I guess I better start counting my loose change to pay for it.
Who knows maybe I'll make it my daily cue and run over 300 again or break Jayson Shaws 714 World Record High run.lol

So that being said Nick Varner was with me when we went to the Southwest shop back then and also ordered a cue. So I guess you would say Nick is a dumb dumb also?

As for the 17 year wait, 17 years from now I'll most likely have no idea where my cues are or why I bought them to begin with.
 
it's a different business model for sure. if the demand is there most businesses would upscale. but i guess the wait itself adds a certain unobtanium and thereby value to the product. anyone know who does the actual cue building these days?

They’ve built a following why not take care of your customers with an actual product.

Even just cutting your wait times in half.

17 year waitlist is weird and more than anything rubs me the wrong way.

How long is that waitlist going to be when they age out of being able to fulfill any meaningful production.

I don’t get it.

Definitely strange but people are waiting/buying. I guess it's pride of ownership and bragging rights ... as for the playability there's no magic in it.

i don't know much about their operation but isn't that already a factor?

SW's usually look great imo, i wouldn't mind having one for that reason alone.

I had a custom cue accidentally damaged by a pool hall customer so I leave all of my customs at home -forever.
I now play with a Cuetec so I will never again feel that gut punch.
Because people suck, I'm afraid any new custom cue I may buy would just be decoration on my wall at home.

Enjoy your SW and use it up.
 
A 17 year wait for anything, even a new heart is absolutely ridiculous. Even if this cue will make you a better player, won't you try to find something else that could help your game sooner than 17 years. Anyone one of us could be dead in the next 17 years, no matter what age you are now.
 
Yes 17 years is a long time. When I ordered the cue it was about an 8 year wait. I’m also a collector. I didn’t order the cue to make it my playing cue.
 
I hit with one that a guy waited 12yrs to get. Played ok but nothing to write home about. I just don't get the cult-like attraction to these. Hope the OP likes how it plays.
I think you can get a good CF shaft for them. That should fix the playability issues. ;)

And Bobby said above he does not intend to play with it. At resale time, "virgin" seems to be a huge selling point for some people. As in, "Never chalked."

I've had a few novice players ask me over the years if they can use or test hit my custom cue, and I always politely decline. When they ask why, I tell them that if any accident happens, then I'm the one left holding the repair bill. And given that my current cue cannot be repaired without Customs possibly confiscating it regardless of when it was made, I simply cannot take that risk.

The one time someone else grabbed my cue without permission, it was at my work place's pool table. I was still playing when I heard my lunch order# called, so I placed my stick on the table and quickly grabbed my lunch. 10 seconds later I was staring at a bunch of guys racking the table, one of them holding my cue. I quickly told them that it was my personal cue along with its estimated cost, and they gave it back to me rather sheepishly. Needless to say, it was my fault for not securing my cue and walking away from it in a public work space. That was the first and last time I would make that mistake.
 
Southwests (and cues from most top cue makers) don't follow the same rules as normal commodity type items. Their cues are more like limited edition works of functional art that have incredible brand recognition. Think about it. No words or signatures... Just an engraved cactus with a serial number on the pin. Just by that, everyone knows what it is if they hadn't already figured it out by the design.

I honestly can't think of anything that I'd order knowing it's going to take nearly two decades to get. But, here's the thing, when you get on their list you're not ordering anything. You're simply putting your name on a list to maybe get a chance to order a cue one day. No deposit. No nothing. Just a name on a list. And I'd imagine that most people who get on that list basically forget they're on it at least to some degree. So calling it "waiting" probably isn't accurate for most cases. And if you really are "waiting' for your Southwest from the day you get on that list, you're doing it wrong and driving yourself unnecessarily crazy.

I used to wonder why they didn't bother to expand their business to try to get at least a little caught up on orders. But after thinking about it for just a little bit it all made sense. They don't have to. They know how many cues they need to make a year to hit their financial goals and they're able to do it. Plus, they know as much as any business can that they've got a steady flow of cash for the foreseeable future because people will continue to get on that list and buy cues when their number comes up.

Personally, I think it's beautiful that our little pool world has such a quirky and unique thing in it.

If you feel bad having to decline their request, instead say, "Sure! I'll need a $6k cash deposit before I hand over the cue. If you damage the cue--according to my opinion--then I'll send it to a cue repairman of my choice, hopefully the original maker, and I'll deduct the repair bill plus shipping and insurance both ways from your deposit. In addition, if the cue is damaged I will deduct $1k from your deposit for the hassle. Agreed??!"

When I'm playing around someone that has a "nice" cue, something that I've heard is an expensive (to me, over $1k) cue, I walk clear around wherever its leaning when not in use. I am that paranoid. I don't wanna be near it and accidentally bump into it or have something fall onto it or any of a thousand other possible disasters that my luck could entail.

I know the feeling. I had customs until I had a monster Scruggs. 6 point ebony loaded with ivory and sterling silver. I always had people begging me to sell it But after a while it felt like having a classic car you were an afraid to ever drive worried it would get damaged. Parking it at the back of parking lots. lol now I play with a predator sp2 and I'm careful with all my things but I’m not stressing it at all lol I can replace in a blink.

on another note I said I couldn’t wait which is true but it’s your dream cue and i didn’t mean to sound like I was giving you crap. Hope its exactly what you want and you get a ton of play out of it.

I get what you’re saying. If I loved how they played I would put my name on the list but I would also buy something on the secondary market and not drive myself crazy thinking about it lol when they email me they email me.

That's like the guys that build these on-off street rods and haul 'em around on trailers.
