DO ... You just say Hell with it and play bar table pool with bar banger

Bar pool is a good way to work on absurd offensive shots where you’d otherwise play safe.
It's also good to lose after trying such things, and build up your temperament around some dancing clowns (or to place a little wager and make them regret it after :) )

I think I played once on a random coin table with people I did not know; I lost the first game because I scratched while making the 8, the other guy never went up to the table to shoot. When it came up to my turn again, I won. Everyone else walked away from the table to go do something else for some reason LOL I learned that people are fine to play as long as they think they can win, never bothered playing with randos again. Only time I get on the coin op bar tables is if the players there know me and drag me in to play with them.

I learned an new absurd rule to bar pool
Asian style

Guy was nearly yelling at me to get ready to break and I said I would soon as you move

He was holding the balls up while spinning the 8 ball and I had to shoot as soon as he lifted up while it was spinning or he got angry . Took me like 3 minutes to understand what he wanted

When rambling in strange places on a nice weekend drive I was more likely to find a seven foot table than nine foot tables or first choice, ten footers.

The best thing about seven foot tables, especially playing eight ball, it is easy to hide your skill. A sneaky old road player scouted me about fourteen hours before he decided it wasn't luck. I always remember what he said. "First night I thought it was luck. Second night I still thought it might be luck. Nobody gets as lucky as you do three nights in a row." Busted!

One of the best reasons to like bar boxes is largely gone now, the mud ball. Many people hated the mud ball but once I accepted it I realized that big heavy ball was far easier to control than one that weighed the same and was the same size as the other balls. I always called the mud ball the eight hundred pound gorilla. When they started getting rare I almost danced a jig to find one, money in the bank! Keith McCready is a fan of the mud ball also I believe. Working from shakier memory now but I think Dave Matlock liked it too. Magic could happen with the mud ball and a player that understood it.

One compensation for no mud ball any longer is the Diamond seven footers. I don't call them bar boxes. Nice playing tables that are kind to old eyes.

As far as the people playing on bar boxes, they tend to be less uptight than those playing on the big track. Might as well enjoy myself.

The last time I had something ridiculous happen it was on a big table. Playing a fourteen year old hillbilly boy in a bar, he knocked a ball off the table. After he fetched it he hurled it on the table as hard as he could. "Around and around she goes, where she stops nobody knows!" The only amazing thing is that the ball stayed on the table. It wasn't likely we would ever play again and there was no cash involved so I didn't say a word!

Asian style? I had a Russian friend that was like this. Literally wouldn't allow the break to happen unless the ball was spinning :ROFLMAO: Drove me crazy. Thank God we only ever played games for alcohol, after an extensive amount of alcohol, in a lovely little dive bar.
I once used my Mongolian friends head as a pool cue on this very same table.... It needed chalk haha

nope, i tell people i only play for big money and am very good. this way i dont interact with the drunks and find some games worthwhile.
if they insist on playing for less than say 50 i will say, i will play one handed to try to make it more fair as long as they dont get mad if i win.

One benefit of being pretty much ambidextrous, is that I simply start by playing left-handed in these situations with bangers. I try to play outrageous things, and am generally happy to take a loss. I can always switch to the other after the loss and say let's go again. The head games alone are great craic.

You lose again, you can always blame the house cues, the drinks, the music, the standard... :ROFLMAO: depends how much of a baby you choose to be lol

if your say, a B player or better you likely will never lose in a bar. unless you run into a good road player and then only lose one game.

If someone actually had the speed to be competitive, I wouldn't bother in such a scenario. If I'm out drinking, I'm drinking... not playing real pool. If I am playing pool on a night out, I am going to be doing it left handed and kicking three rails for shits and giggles. If you see their head swell when you scratch a black ball, or leave an out. You give them a real hiding next game

Yeah I'm a teetotaler and really don't have the time to sit around in bars. If I'm not getting a workout, it's a wash. I miss the poolrooms.
I'm not a teetotaller. If I am drinking, I have one objective... and it isn't playing pool :ROFLMAO:
I like casual bar games, I especially like the types that bring their cue to the bar here. It's usually foreigners who haven't figured out where any pool halls are (irprobably have no interest in playing a game they'd lose), they get comfy playing other bangers and think they are good. They are usually the biggest idiots, and the most fun to humiliate.

Its called hustling for a reason.

Competition play is standard because everyone knows how to start.

Hustling is an art.
