MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

The US sucks in this event. We are outgunned here bigtime. They have five pit vipers, we have two monsters, one mid grade and two wanna be's. Sorry to be so brutal but that's my take, fkng sue me. Down 4-zip in such a short event makes Mt.Everest look kike a speedbump. If we dig out of this dumpsterfire it will the comeback of all-time.

Who are the wanna be’s?

what ghost # did he beat? Aren't almost all pros favored to beat the 9 or 10 ball ghost?

Not knocking him- he is clearly one of the top players, if not the top player in the world right now.
He's actually been playing the God, not the ghost, recently: same as the ghost but you don't get ball in hand after the break. So you just have to break and run to win. I saw him play one set that he didn't win, but came close - final score in this video was 21-19:

Was far too complicated to explain and went on for several days.
But break No Ball In Hand is not easy

And according to Matchroom (Barry & Emily), this event is the best you could ever get in nineball (to put the brand of the game the way they like).
I have to say they have really improved this event by tightening up the pockets considerably from what they were not that many years ago. The tight pockets combined with the extreme pressure has led to some very unexpected misses. Unfortunately, mostly for team USA. It is certainly a shame that except for a few exceptions, it’s been quite one-sided and lacking of drama in recent years.

Europe simply has the better players, and you combine that with the overwhelming confidence that they display, and it becomes an Almost forgone conclusion

The Europe argument doesnt hold if Mosconi was based on female player selection.

USA dominates in women's pro pool development. The only reason women are not in the Mosconi is because no one asked Barry to try. Create a womens event to qualify for Mosconi.

Europe has better men.

With Fedor on Team USA along with SVB and Sky I don't think the gap in ability between Europe and USA is as large as some folks do. This is 9 ball; get a few rolls, take advantage of opportunities and get some momentum going and USA can win this event. The problem for USA is SVB. His play and body language is APA like at Mosconi. It brings the whole team down time and time again. I'm a huge fan of his which is what makes this so difficult to watch.

The thing I noticed the most and surprised me was the crowd. Seemed like much lower energy than usual for London and after the team match a ton of empty seats. Didn't look or feel like a contest at all; more like a foregone conclusion. Bad day for Matchroom and pool. Hopefully a more competitive, festive atmosphere tomorrow.

Obviously USA didn’t play that well, but Europe sure got the rolls today. I’m looking forward to the singles matches tomorrow. I’d put Fedor first, hopefully wins, Sky second he plays well no matter what , and Shane last to vibe off of the hopeful 2 wins !

You’re fu*king stoned, retarded, or possibly both. European women outnumber Americans 5 to 1 in Fargo top 50.

Jennifer Barretta does not compete. Many of the top women stop competing.

The active roster list would not compare to the inactive roster list. Women champions have a better living as room owner than in competition.

Life on the road is not for everyone.

Look at Jean Balukas.

Is there another sporting event or game that was invented in America that America now gets dominated in? (Talking about 9-Ball, not pocket billiards.)

Related: has a team ever been shut out in the Mosconi Cup? What are the odds of that happening in the next two days?

A whitewash might threaten the existence of the MC. Europe should probably sandbag a little just to keep their annual $40,000 per man paydays coming.

Nope, no complete shut outs. The worst was 12-1 USA in 2001, then 11-2 Europe in 2013.

I just did a little research on scoreless days:

- Scoreless days for a team have occurred 16 times in 13 different Cups. Only once did a team suffer a scoreless day and still win the Cup. That was when USA went 0-5 on Day 3 in 2003 but came back with 5-1 the next day to win 11-9.
- A team has gone scoreless on Day 1 only three times (before today); they lost the Cup each time.
So Team USA has a great opportunity to make history over the next 3 days.;)

[assumes Wiki is accurate on daily scores]

USA dominates in woman’s pro pool! Who?

Very curious post. Even if USA had both Fishers on our 5 player team we’d still be considerable underdogs to a 5 player women’s Euro team.

I downloaded the DAZN app on my iPhone. From the app, I created an account with my name, email, and password, then paid for a 1-month subscription for $24.95 through my iTunes account (like you use on all iOS apps). The verbiage after paying said I could cancel any time before Jan 6, 2024.

All the devices that DAZN runs on are listed at https://www.dazn.com/en-US/help/articles/what-are-dazn-supported-devices.

I plan to watch it on my Sony smart TV while I’m at home, and watch on my phone when I’m not.

If I put on a dress I would be in the top 75 fargo rated female players in the US and I am not even in the top 75 male players in the small population state of Oregon.

I can’t figure out why he left himself as long as he did on the 9 ball - wasn’t the 8 ball virtually hanging in the pocket? Then the miss on the 7 was even worse. He was straight in and all he had to do was to draw back to play the 9 in the same pocket. Mosconi Cup pressure!
It wasn't really that long. Set it up on your own 9 footer to understand just how bad of a miss that really was for a simple shot.

I had a bad feeling going in SVB would flop. I don't know why but Mosconi he just struggles overall. The captain has to go. We need to put much more effort in America on developing young talent. Poor communication between the American players in doubles. It was really rough to watch. Euro's had some good rolls for sure but they played some outstanding safeties and put on a clinic potting balls. The shots SVB missed (a 300 Fargo player would make consistently) really set the tone I feel like. Anyway hopefully the Americans can dust off the losses and dig in.

he miss hit the 8, almost didn't get whitey out of the pocket. if hit right he wouldn't have as long a shot on the 9. which he shouldn't have missed anyway, of course. rolling it with top, to me, was a sign of nervousness
