MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

Only 3 scheduled matches today....

Seems like MR isn't taking any chances... Of course, assuming the near impossible. It will make for a monster day 4 if the US can muster enough to tied it up
That is how big of beatdown this is.

They have to cancel matches to make it last the 4th day for those in attendance.

Billy Thorpe isn't a world class rotation player either. He's much closer to a Tony Chohan than a Skylar Woodward. At this point, I might take Evan Lunda over him.
You seem to have missed his point. Your assessment is accurate, though there is no way to know how they would fade the pressure yet either.

I'm just sitting back and enjoying the show the best I can. Maybe all of this ass whippin will light a fire under their asses... or someone's asses maybe lol... wishful thinking

I'm really enjoying Johan's perspective of what's going on in the MC on the Doggin' It Podcast. It's LIVE!

For some of our American players who have such a strong background in high stakes gambling, it sure does not translate to the bright lights of the Mosconi Cup. That pressure is insanely different. It can only be faded by putting yourself in high pressured tournaments against the best players in the world, all year round. The Euros are seasoned this way, and can easily fade the pressure, despite most of them not being big gamblers. Like Wolford is a good player an all, but I never see his name come up in any major tournament, same with Tyler.

With all that being said, Shane and Fedor are seasoned and are constantly in battle all year against elites, both gamble high stakes, but yet both are crumbling under the pressure. It's really mind-boggling.

Shane gambles.
I don't think he's out there hustling amateurs, but he has always played for money.
The cash could have been decided before the match of course, but it's happening.
In fact, I think there was a joke going around because at the time of the 60 minutes thing reporting "doesn't gamble", there was a flyer on here for a good size money game coming up featuring Shane and another pro player.
It probably should have been phrased different. I would say that Shane doesn't hustle! He will certainly play for money though. I saw him playing a low ranked amateur for a sizable sum. He was giving up a huge spot to the amateur, and the amateur certainly knew what he was up against. The amateur thought that with the spot he could outrun him. He was wrong.

Wolford has had his best year yet. He earned his consideration, for sure. I'm not sure if he earned his spot or if it was a wild card pick though, I can't recall.

Agreed. Shane is not a showman and absolutely does not want to be there. It really does show; he can't hide it. I thought he looked more comfortable last year though appears to have reverted back to his typical MC form again this year. It's tough to watch though somehow I do anyway.
I think Svb really does care and that why he missed the first 9. He was playing really well, knew how important getting a good start was and the fear of messing up for his teammates made him play the shot scared. Small margins- that first 9 goes in and the whole tournament would have changed imo

I agree... I don't enjoy watching their antics. FSR and Albin on the other hand are class acts.

david alcaide?

my significant other has issues with watching filler, he's rubbing it in and she felt sorry for gorst. but i enjoy pool perfection. i mostly judge by what's going on between the four rails.

Questionable.

Compare this to Tony Chohan's year, why wasn't he selected?

I believe there’s more high level junior tournaments happening not just in the US but in multiple countries. An example in the US is the International 9-Ball that Pat Fleming hosts. He has a junior tournament running in conjunction with the pro tournament and there’s some strong kids coming up. That has not been the case past years.
And god bless Ra Hannah bringing his energy and charisma to the juniors also. Shout out to Ra.

People only hate on Filler and Shaw because the members of the team they're rooting for don't have a reason to act the same...lol
Dizzy Dean used to say "It ain't bragging if you can do it." As an American I always root against Filler, but I can't see the hate. Seems to me he's just a great player who thoroughly enjoys the game and all its surroundings. All pool players don't have to act like Ralf or Shane. Different strokes, etc.
