CJ Wiley Ultimate Aiming System

I recently purchased CJ Wiley's Ultimate Pool Secrets, where he discusses his ultimate aiming system. Anyone have any experience using it? Did it work?

Here's my take on it.

It's a type of fractional-ball aiming system. It creates more cut angles than some other fractional-ball aiming systems. Therefore, if implemented precisely, it will pocket a higher percentage of all the shots on a table than will a fractional-ball aiming system that creates fewer cut angles. However, since it still involves a relatively small number of discrete cut angles (8 to the right, 8 to the left), it must not be geometrically sound for all shots. I imagine it has some "holes" in it for some shots where the object ball is quite a distance from the pocket and "pocket slop" is insufficient to help the system "work."

CJ says he has used the system for many years. He has played pool at the highest level. I imagine that means that he has, whether consciously or subconsciously, developed a sense for making adjustments on some shots between the fixed cut angles dictated by the system.

I recieved the DVD in June and have only worked on the preshot routine that he shows. I've had good improvements changing to this stance and alignment after about 4 weeks, and am working toward the mechanics of the aiming system. I feel for his aiming system to be effective you have to have his fundamentals down for it to work correctly. And don't forget he mentions that "feel" has alot to do with the aiming system, this will come from practice and experience with it. I plan on using it for tough long cut shots and back cuts. The DVD is good and covers alot.

I heartily agree. My earlier comment that the aiming system probably has some "holes" in it theoretically is not meant as negative criticism. I imagine that system could help lots of people. And the DVD as a whole contains loads of helpful tips.

The problem most will face, is that muscle memory takes about 6 weeks to reset with regular practice. If you try for a week or two and take a break, you revert to the old way automaticly , and then need to start again. I got to start again.

It's a good DVD but the aiming system didn't impress me all that much. I'll stick with what I use.

It might work for him but I got a headache watching it. Too confusing for me.

I purchased CJ DVD and found that I saw the shot in a whole new way. Each time I replayed it I would pick up on something I missed. CJ is a natural teacher and I appreciate the fact that he is willing to share his pool knowledge. I don't play Tap leagues anymore so I'm not sure what I would be rated now but I would say I went from a 4 to a 6 in about 4 to 6 weeks using the TOI method.

I usually just hit the ball harder. Not after CJ coaching, the free tips are good and the paid version is better.

Seeing him in action, that is when I hope he plays in a tour again. Then I can follow up with what I learned from the online instruction.

I plan to bring a VHS and have him sign the cover.

I have all 4 of CJ's DVDs. he likes to use a little "inside" English. I would say that most PROs use outside more than 60% of the time so it is not too favorable to them. I use it on occasion ,but you do need to cut thinner.
Greg Cantrall mentioned Barry Stark in a thread somewhere, and he seems to explain it well.
here he explains using English on a cut shot.
English & cut shots.

CJ's TOI is NOT an aiming system but more of a playing method. He's not spinning it. His aiming system is quite simple and easy to follow. I'm still curious as to how new members find these 13yr old threads.

I am going to disagree here(technically). CJ's intention with using "inside" is to make it easier to pot the OB AND get position on the next ball. There are times that can be done much easier with outside. I disagree w/you because if you use "inside" on the CB; you are going to make it squirt outside. You can't do that w/o spin. You are right: he is not using spin for position; rather natural angle. In that way it is a playing method.
Newbs here apparently like to use search.

CJ tends to line up 'thick' and use a TOI to squirt the ball on-line. It also results in what a lot of pros call a 'flat' ball in that it 'dies' more after impact. There is a difference in this and really applying english to the ball. Allows them to hit with more power when under the heat. Also opens the pocket up to more avenues of approach.

Found this recently. CJ have a new place?, or is that the same place with a nice addition?
That a Cadillac convertible behind him?
