Jayson Shaw First Contracted Pro on WNT

most any person in a contract for employment gets to regret it at some point in their career.
they had better carefully review its ramifications for their future as things change.
and should have a buy out option so they can be released for not being happy.
and how many pool players will be able to afford the lawyers fees to fight it or defend themselves if necessary. none.

a company only does it for control over a person. no other reason. you get paid to do their bidding and be under their thumb.

something about selling yourself to the devil .

Versus having the WPA forceably limiting their opportunities.
Is there an argument here somewhere?
Both MR and WPA want control and are forcing players to choose which opportunities they have to miss.
I will not defend either of the two power-hungry parties.

How does the Predator tour affect the two ruling orgs?
Are they allowed to play in those events or are they forced to miss out on them too?

Now we have competing(warring?) organizations and contracts.
It's easy to view it in such a fashion but imo there's only one viable organization and the "other" lives off the goodwill of others.

I think the only real chip the WPA has behind their cards is Predator. ...and I don't think for a moment that predator has any interest from isolating themselves from the players in what will quickly become the defacto pro-tour

The WPA have been the architects of their own demise. Even this so-called pissing match just amounts to the WPA making demands and MR being an open door. I'm betting this MR contract is nothing more than appearance fees to players based on activity and priority to MR on competing dates. MR gets to say that "their players" can do WPA events because the WPA has already threatened sanctions to those players.

As always, the WPA have no clue and are attempting to fight well above their weight class.

5-10yrs, if that long. The WPA will be branded the WAPA. The new 'A' standing for amateur

Have you been paying attention since the beginning?

MR wants control of 9ball. ...and would obviously prefer to have the best talent taking part.

The WPA believe the world should bend a knee. MR has always said that players can come and go. MR decided not pursue common ground with the WPA because the WPA would not recognize MR's rankings.

Until we have full disclosure about these new MR player contracts. The fore mentioned has been the reality between the two acronyms. WPA restricting, MR growing and promoting

If you follow the WPA's recent announcement concerning them, JOY and Heyball you'd think they just invented the wheel. If Predator wasn't with them HB is about all they'd have. If i was Barry-Emily Co. i'd be reaching out to Predator. That team would be pretty hard to beat.

I'd like to see them play games other than nine ball. I hope the contracts are about requiring appearances in a minimum number of MR events instead of not appearing in other events.
Don't expect MR to play other games anytime soon. They are all-in on the WNT 9b tour. What else would they play? 8b? We've already seen that 8b for pros is too easy. 10b would be cool but that's pretty much Predator's game right now.

I think he was implying that he hopes Matchroom let's them play other games for other organizations, not that he wants Matchroom to host other tournaments.

Not how i read it but yes i agree with that totally. AFAIK its the WPA doing the butthurt restrictions.

Seriously tho this is a brave new world for pool. Back in the day players beat each other's brains in for a cheeseburger and enough to cover the nut at Motel6. Now we have competing(warring?) organizations and contracts.
Yes, and it's a big step forward. The demand for the players' services continues to be on the rise, and this can usher in very good times in our sport. As I noted in my post just after the Qatar summit, perhaps something good will come out of all of this.

Now Darren Appleton and David Alcaide added.

Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the signings.

Billy Thorpe?

Sounds like Predator may be throwing in the towel. Instead, they should wave the white flag and see if they could partner with Matchroom while switching to 9 Ball. Matchroom doesn't have much of a presence in the US and they could both benefit from a partnership.
This is not clear to me. Is there any evidence that Predator is throwing in the towel?
