Do wives or husbands pick red cloth?

I was pondering why so many home tables of non-players have red cloth. I always thought it was the wife picking the cloth color as a condition for the husband to get the table at all.

I asked a couple women recently if they liked red for a pool table cloth or a sofa or a wall color, and the answer was a strong NO.

So how did all these red cloth tables come to be?

Charlie Sheen.

I can think of no other reason.

There was a while that my dad had a pool table in his basement - 8' table with red cloth. It was his choice. Didn't make much of a difference since it was the only table he was ever going to shoot on. It would only impact me whenever I came home to visit since I'd end up leaving blue chalk flakes on his table, then turn around and leave red ones when I'd get back to my league tables.

My wife asked me what color cloth I was getting and told her tournament blue ( Simonis) . She said she didn't like it lol. I told her it's my table and that's just how it's gonna be.
I had the same discussion with my wife and it played out the same way...lol. After the work was done she admitted how nicely the blue goes with the dark finish of the table.

I think to non-players, that is, players whose primary concern is aesthetics and not playability, red looks best likely for the same reason a red sports car looks best to a lot of folks.

I would hazard a guess that 95+% of pool table cloth color is chosen by a male.

Yeah, I’m kind of thinking maybe it’s the husband’s choosing the red now. Like a sports car. Where women probably rarely pick red for a car.

Burgundy seems far more popular than red for home tables. In our area, non pool playing home owners allow their interior decorator to have the final word on their table cloth color, even though they are clueless on what colors as best to play on. What color goes best with what’s in the room is their only concern. Spruce green seems to be their color of choice, although most players find that color too dark, much like navy blue or black.
