Jayson Shaw First Contracted Pro on WNT

As an aside, why is Matchroom releasing the contract signings one player at a time, stretching it out? Just curious.
Mayby most of the players have already signed but I think MR will make it more exciting for the people, according to the priciple "Oh, look who the next member in the team is".

Regardless of whether they have or have not already signed you get more publicity by releasing their names gradually rather than one big announcement.

The slow drip continues:

Max Lechner and Alex Kazakis

...and it will until all the big shoes drop.

Once you see Fedor and few others, the announcements will fade out and the rest will simply appear on a list. Where ever they decide to post this list.
What's going to be interesting is not who signs a contract.

But who doesn't.

I think what would be even more interesting is who wasn't offered a contract, or refused one. Not that we would ever know.

MR certainly doesn't have a stack of them at the front door of their office for anyone to scribble their 'X' on.

I think the most interesting of all is Alex P. Not because he's home town talent, but because he has put recent focus on chinese 8b.

He's one of the extreme minority in pro pool that are both strong players and more importantly, entertainers. People want to watch Alex play. MR wants entertainment. However Alex has broken through into being allow to compete in the chinese 8b circuit. Ridiculous money in C8b. This will be a hard choice for Alex I think.

i've noted that. maybe dennis too, he played their last one and made an interview with joy/heyball

WPA need to respond.

I would issue life bans to all players who have joined Matchroom.

WPA should then focus on players ranging from 20-100. The top 20 can make a comfortable living with Matchroom, but the rest will struggle.
On what planet will the WPA win this little pissing match?

If this continues and Matchroom gets a near monopoly on the best players ...

1) the WPA's hand will be forced in everything but Heyball, which I'm still not convinced has anything to do with pro pool.

2) WPAs choice will be to strictly enforce the edicts of Qatar and continue their events with mediocre fields or to back down and allow Matchroom players entry into such events. The most likely scenario to me would be that they will back down.

In this scenario, Matchroom would hold all the cards and WPA would likely either a) reconcile with Matchroom, giving Matchroom absolutely everything they want, b) abandon the policy of banning Matchroom players, or both of these.

WPA has helped to build pool's infrastructure worldwide and they can and will continue to do so, but at pro level, they'd play second fiddle to Matchroom, just as many of us want. As Justnum points out, the WPA has done a lot for women's pro pool and will likely continue to do so.

WPA can remain a very positive force in our sport, but they'll no longer be able to bully the organization that is pool's greatest hope for growth in over twenty years.
Not a fan of Ch8b but i don't see how one could say its not part of pro pool. They pay out stupid money, hell in one event a player can make more than he could in years of 'regular' pool. I do see it growing but it will always be at its biggest in Asia. If Chinese gov't is funding it ain't going away anytime soon.

Chinese 8ball is here to stay, and I have great respect for those that grew the sport. I just see it as more like snooker than pool, with insanely straight shooting needed for one to even compete and in which no amount of tactical prowess can make up for any weakness in offensive execution.

Its not all that entertaining to watch. The little pockets leads to a very restrictive 'just-make-it' style of play. They do shoot straight as hell but the game is just dull to me. Adding in that goofy 140min time limit just makes it worse.
