Pivots are gimicks
Not sure about gimicks, but I believe any pivot performed perfectly to land on the correct shot line is a great example of the subconscious at work.
Pivots are gimicks
Define pivot. Not sure about gimicks, but I believe any pivot performed perfectly to land on the correct shot line is a great example of the subconscious at work.
In context to the video, for example, when angle is less than 15 degrees. He aims center of cue ball at center of object ball. He then pivots the cue to point at a quarter of the object ball. The pivot he is using in this case is done my moving his back hand, or ‘back hand english’. Technically he pivots around the bridge hand with his back hand. What he ultimately is doing in this case is just ‘spinning the ball in’ using SIT or spin induced throw.Define pivot.
“Parallel shift” to apply spin is a mistaken idea. What’s usually meant by “parallel shift” is angling the cue by feel (vs. by pivoting). Some (or maybe a lot) use a parallel shift (no pivot) to apply sidespin and adjust where they ultimately are aiming.
Thanks. Yeah, I never could get any good results with an actual parallel shift, because then the cue ball doesn’t travel along shot line. And I was horrible trying to pick an aiming spot not on the shot line that would compensate for the squirt/deflection from the parallel shift.“Parallel shift” to apply spin is a mistaken idea. If you're going down with the cue at an angle already, there was no manual pivot. In context to the video, for example, when angle is less than 15 degrees. He aims center of cue ball at center of object ball. He then pivots the cue to point at a quarter of the object ball. I don’t pivot to aim shots. I only pivot to counteract squirt/deflection when using sidespin. IE I aim along shot line first, then pivot to apply the sidespin. And even then it is almost always a pivot about my back hand. ‘Front hand english’ where I shift bridge hand to apply english.
Some (or maybe a lot) use a parallel shift (no pivot) to apply sidespin and adjust where they ultimately are aiming. Never worked well for me though. I like to aim where I want the ball to go.
Me personally? I get down on the intended shot line behind the center of the cuball with my bridge in place. I then move my bridge hand to apply the amount of english that I want. I certainly am pivoting about my back hand using front hand english. It isn’t a gimmick for me, it is literally how I apply sidespin while compensating for squirt/deflection.If you're going down with the cue at an angle already, there was no manual pivot.
Pivoting with your bridge hand already in place.and your body lined up to the center of the cue ball.then pivoting is a gimmick..
That was my thought, conscious pivoting to compensate for deflection makes sense, consciously pivoting to aim sounds like a gimick.Me personally? I get down on the intended shot line behind the center of the cuball with my bridge in place. I then move my bridge hand to apply the amount of english that I want. I certainly am pivoting about my back hand using front hand english. It isn’t a gimmick for me, it is literally how I apply sidespin while compensating for squirt/deflection.
The guy in the video? Yeah, he is using back hand english to throw the ball in. That pivot is a gimmick suited to work only at a very limited range of speeds and angles. I have no idea what he’d do for precision cueball positioning requiring different speeds and english and still make the shot as he advocates.
For that, you would follow the CTE process as it is taught by people who know it. That video has nothing to do with it.No, I was asking about how you set the aim up using CTE that is more accurate.
Yes, and I got the impression that he knew it given he said he thought it was more accurate. Not sure what video you're referring to.For that, you would follow the CTE process as it is taught by people who know it. That video has nothing to do with it.
The one he posted explaining his method of CTE, which has nothing to do with CTE.Yes, and I got the impression that he knew it given he said he thought it was more accurate. Not sure what video you're referring to.
If you want to watch an in depth series on youtube about CTE go here.Yes, and I got the impression that he knew it given he said he thought it was more accurate. Not sure what video you're referring to.
He didn't say it did, he asked a question about whether or not it was like it.The one he posted explaining his method of CTE, which has nothing to do with CTE.
Thanks, didn't think it did. I tried asking him that because he said he thought CTE was more accurate. Thought it was a valid question. The video in this thread talking about ‘split the difference’ has nothing to do with CTE.
I wasn’t sure if anyone wanted a (semi) full explanation of CTE. That’s why I posted a link to like 33 videos trying to explain it.He didn't say it did, he asked a question about whether or not it was like it.

When someone said it was more accurate, I guess what I was looking for was, what is your thought process when your starting your aim till you stoke the cue through the cue ball. I'm open to someone having a process that works and willing to try it. If every time you get to a ball you're saying abc for one side, cba for the other, now pivot or sweep or something, that isn't it.I wasn’t sure if anyone wanted a (semi) full explanation of CTE. And maybe it's telling that when someone asks for the thought process when using cte, everyone says buy the book, watch the videos etc. When someone said it was more accurate, I guess what I was looking for was, what is your thought process when your starting you aim till you stoke the cue through the cue ball. I gave a free link that anyone can watch on youtube. I believe the reason that CTE guys don’t just explain it is because there are a LOT of details in the system. That’s why the link to a CTE guru guy has 33 videos!!! just to describe all the details. I tried watching them but my eyes just glaze over ever 30 seconds or so. I literally cannot comprehend all of the details. (My fault entirely, apparently some people get it.)And maybe it's telling that when someone asks for the thought process when using cte, everyone says buy the book, watch the videos etc.
I think you did well, 30 seconds isn't bad.I gave a free link that anyone can watch on youtube. And then he spent 24 minutes demonstrating how he does ,,,,,,,,,,,, something, I suppose was his explanation of cte.He didn't say it did, he asked a question about whether or not it was like it.

He asked whether split the difference was like CTE light. He ended by saying he thought CTE was more accurate. I asked him how he used CTE given I thought he must use it to make that determination. I'm not sure what is confusing here.
Oh boy, brace yourself. If you want to watch an in depth series on youtube about CTE go here.
The video in this thread talking about ‘split the difference’ has nothing to do with CTE.
If you can understand all of it CTE might be helpful for you.
I personally am far too stupid to comprehend or apply the massive system myself.
