Ambition to get better slowly decreasing - no tourneys available

Wish it was like NYC where we had a 2-day stop every other weekend to play against the best players in the area on 9ft tables. Winning all your matches on Saturday and coming back on Sunday was an amazing feeling, regardless of the outcome. It felt like you were fighting for something.

Didn't most of that die after covid hit? I know Robles moved to Fla. and re-started the Pred tour. Still have the JossNE tour on big tables. As another said if you want this you're probably gonna be the organizer. Now, get to work!!!! ;)

No clue but the TD's definitely fill their pockets more with BB tourneys. Quite sad.

There's a bunch of players in CO with over 600 Fargo with NOWHERE to play lol. A lot of tourneys are also capped to <450 Fargo, which is another issue.
If there are enough 550+ players there will be events. If there are at least 32+ 550 or better players and there are no events that's the organizers fault. An i don't know many org's filling their pockets. There's usually a small green fee and that's it. No one's getting pumped up running local events.

Here's a thought and i'm done here: Quit whining about what isn't and get something going YOURSELF. Call it the RockyMtn9bTour or whatever. AZ's Dr.Dave, measureman and IslandDrive live out there and may be able to help you. Go talk to room/club owners and see what happens. Outti................................

I understand that, it's definitely the organizer's fault (generally speaking). I never said they are getting rich off this, but the fact remains that they get more entry fees for amateur BB tourneys than 9ft ones.

For example: The tournament I played in was $15 entry fee. 10 people entered. That's $150. Out of that, first place got $55 and 2nd place got $25. That's $80 combined payout. 150-80 = $70 goes to the TD/green fees. Now multiply this by 100's of barbox tourneys daily within a 50 mile radius. It's definitely to the advantage of the TD or organizer of event.

If I didn't have a full-time job I would. I'm just surprised that this is the current state of pool in a State where there are so many advanced-elite players. Rant over.

I asked the TD if they're going to stream Turning Stone finals with Gorst vs. Shaw on the big tv's. He said "what's that?" You get the point.

And it lasted 8 hours. In defense of the TD, because he stretched it out for so long, he got less than minimum wage.

Sounds like a really dismal pool scene.

Here's my experience: literally every pool hall in my state are only having tournaments for amateurs/beginners/league players, and a majority of them are on 7ft tables, and to top it off, it's 8 ball. And to top it off even more, it's a race to 4 or 5 on the winners side and race to 3 on losers side.

It is very discouraging because there are no opportunities to play with stronger players and test yourself, unless you want to pay $1000 to travel to the US Open and go 2 and out.

What's even more annoying, is whenever they do have a 9 foot table tourney, it's ALWAYS on a friggin weeknight, and starts at 6PM!!! (always some kind of weird handicap attached to it) Not Saturday or Sunday. Are they purposely trying to restrict better players?

Why is American pool heading in this direction? It seems to only favor the Tournament Directors and room.

It's good to get beginners and lower ranked players engaged, but there has to be some kind of balance. It should NOT be this hard to find a normal 9ball tournament played on 9 foot tables. It lowers my drive to want to get better. Like what is the point of increasing my skill level if I'm only going to be playing the same people every Tuesday night 8 ball race to 3.

Certain States like NY, Cali and Florida had tour stops every weekend with the Predator Pro-Am tour and others for their respective states.

Now it's only bar table tourneys with $20 entry fee. Why would I want to leave my house to play pool?

Anyone with a similar experience in their state of residence?
Forget tournaments. Little incentive to improve when you can’t find a room with serene environment/good equipment in reasonable driving distance, and players your own speed who are game for 14.1 action.

It is very sad indeed, hence my post and rant. I hope there are some big changes this year and more 9ft tourneys will be created. I wouldn't even be mad if it was 8 ball, but at least let it be on the 9footer. Last year it was revolving, so every Sunday it was either 8 ball, next week 9 ball, next week 10 ball then rinse and repeat, but they were all on 9ft Diamond tables.

Now they are ALL on Diamond barboxes and the 9ft Diamond tables are collecting dust or being used by good players who don't want to enter barbox tourneys.

14.1???? Who the hell plays that anymore? Don't know where you live but in my area there is exactly ZERO 14.1 pool played. They used to have a sp league in Dallas on 8fts but i don't know if that still goes on. Great game but its beyond on life support.

The reason most places don't have big table events is TURNOUT. At my place they MIGHT get 20 for a 9ft tourn. and at least double that for a bb event. If the OP doesn't have the time or desire to organize himself he's probably stuck playing bb tournaments. If there are as many 600 speed players as he says you could hold a 9ft event every now-n-ten but not a regular basis. Just don't think you'd get the players. This is a very common situation.

You know how many people actually follow the pro pool scene? Next to none. Very few rooms have pro pool streams on or have any clue about it. If this is your standard day-to-day attitude i'd really suggest just quitting. So far you've whined about every aspect of pool in your area. I'm sure the room owners cringe when you walk in. See ya sunshine.

Fargo 650 to 750 is more or less no man's land, especially when they're aren't enough events to even get an established fargo rating. The rating is becoming great for lower level players and very inconvenient for everyone else. Yet another successful failure of a handicapping system.

You're relegated to whatever local Masters type league you have available or Super Billiards Expo. Otherwise spend more money by driving/flying to try and win maybe $1000 at a random "tour stop". The latter is definitely not cost effective.
