Another Facebook stinks rant. Just can't stand how picky they are about posting. You can say southwest "style" to describe a cue, you have to list every detail down to the bumper condition or the Admin will decline your post... It's ridiculous.
Always preferred selling here.
I don't mind attention to fine detail since cues are essentially very very used item. What I mean by that it is used a lot since it is a tool. Scratches, dings and things come with an item that is used a lot. I can usually tell what condition a cue is from the person playing. Whether they wear rings or jewelry. There was a guy that plays with jewelry on and he tried to sell me a Gina. With the naked eye you think its all good but there are a bunch of scratches when you see it under the light.
Since we're bringing up this topic of selling and AZB's poor practices. I want to shed some light on what a buyer like me is looking for:
1.) If the cue has ivory then I will pass on the cue immediately. It would have to be 50% off of perceived value. They are junk in my opinion. They are junk in the sense that you can't travel with them and can't legally sell them without proof of pre-ban ivory. I don't want to deal with this. Most people on other pool sites feel the same way. You buy ivory you immediately lose money. I don't want to know I have a perceived illegal item. It sucks but the laws are the laws. Don't want Ginacue incident.
2.) Is it so hard to get a certificate of authenticity?
All cues should come with this and it should accompany the cue from owner to owner. Always have it in a safe place. Think of it as a pink slip or proof of purchase. I will not buy one without. As a seller this is very important as it will decide if the cue gets sold on the spot or not. Call the cue maker and get one!
Why a certificate? Here's why....my favorite cue is a Tim Scruggs. I no longer have that cue and lets say I am having one made to exact specs. XYZ cue maker is willing to put a Scruggs logo for me. I paid him extra to do it. Just so it feels authentic like my old one. This is an example. I have never done this but know of these do exist. It happens. Favorite cue gets replicated to a T.
I view pool cues as art and in the art world there is no guarantee of a painting being original. There are actually disclaimers. Even if they think its an original because they can get sued.
3.) Contractor's license unless you are a highly reputable builder, think Tasc, highly respected.
Just covering what I think will protect the consumer and myself.
