should I try a Meucci The Pro 12.5mm (maple) if I haven't liked other LD shafts (many)?

In a nutshell, I don't like LD shafts and keep going back to my standard maple shafts for my Carmeli (main player is turned down to 12.5mm long pro taper with a quality soft layered tip like G2). Here are the LD shafts I've tried:
  • Predator Z3 (standard taper and S tuned to long pro taper) with factory tip
  • Predator 314 (standard taper and S tuned to long pro taper) with factory tip
  • Predator 314-2 (standard taper) with factory tip
  • OB Pro+ (standard taper) with factory tip
  • Paul Allers carbon fiber build 12.4mm with soft G2 tip
All of the above LD shafts were either sold or traded. I don't like the standard maple to LD transition. Why cannot I just step into the shot like my standard maple and make the ball (rhetorical question, I know why)?

I did purchase a Rhino CF player 12.5mm with what seems to be a soft layered tip (tip could have been inward tapered more as it is mushrooming a little exceeding the shaft / ferrule diameter just a touch). This LD CF shaft plays most like my standard maple shafts but there are still some transitional adjustments necessary (and it is sitting in my case now with some more hope for playing time, but still go back to my standard Carmeli shaft).

Should I try a Meucci The Pro 12.5mm solid maple shaft or does it play like the top list I provided with too many transitional adjustments necessary? Anyone have a used one or new one that they can sell me with a trial period and return policy?

Aiming approach is open bridge with my chin very close to the shaft. I am definitely a throw english player.

TIA,

Scott

Should you try … try and find out. Contact Seybert’s about try/buy.

If you live anywhere near Jacksonville, Florida, you are welcome to stop by and try a few of my LD shafts just for fun. I have many different ones, including Kielwood and Maple, from several manufacturers, including Meucci, Predator, HSU, McDermott, Mezz, and some of my own.

I for one, really like a torrified shaft, I have three different ones. Perhaps taking advantage of Seybert's advice from @GoldCrown would be helpful. They have a 30-day return policy, even if you've chalked it up and played with it!

Interesting. I just checked their 30 day return policy (on new but trial played cues and shafts, which would work in my scenario). Unfortunately, they only list Meucci CF shafts for sale on their site. I wonder if they could order one, and if so, if it was considered a custom order their 30 day play trial period would not apply.

I had one of Dennis O’s old Meucci Pro shafts and tho it played fine, I moved it on. To me personally I preferred any of the Predators I had previously owned over the Meucci…esp a specific 30 inch 314-2 and also a Z shafts. Which is much smaller than I was used to.

Which torrified shaft brand do you like the most and how is it any different in specs from the others you have?
I’m interested in ordering one but am undecided and there aren’t that many I’ve encountered in person to view.

Did The Pro shaft play like a standard maple shaft or a LD shaft?

I didn’t notice a significant difference, for sure not as noticeable as say a predator wood shaft vs a cf shaft. The Meucci pro I thought was similar to just a standard shaft.

The pro is a great shaft but it's LD. It plays soft and smooth. Its my main player for league. Aside from aiming what do you like in terms of feel?

It's mostly the aiming and setup differences plus the adjustment period I don't like about LD shafts. Is interesting some say the pro plays like a maple shaft and others say it plays LD.

OK, I may be able to save you some money, but I'm guessing I won't, based on the information in your post.

You don't like LD shafts. You don't buy one. It's really that easy. There are no "magic" shafts. Any improvement to your game is going to be very subtle, and you would probably have experienced it allready with all the shafts you tried.

You own an expensive custom cue and have bought a number of expensive shafts, so I'm guessing you are looking for permission to buy another one and you probably will, no matter what anyone says. You don't need my permission, but you have it anyway.

I've been saying this for 30 years.
There is not one single shaft that fits every players needs.

I tried my friend's Meucci Pro shaft and loved it. The ferrule they use makes for such a satisfying soft yet thumpy hit with his medium tip on it. It is honestly probably the best feeling cue I ever hit and I absolutely love mine but could see myself switching over if not for the sentimental value. Tried the feel back to back with an SVB cynergy cue that I liked and it wasn't even close.....Meucci hands down.... but this is a personal subjective thing.

As far as deflection goes, even tho it is technically an LD shaft, his bigger shaft diameter and heavier shaft deflects a touch more than my bowling alley maple 11.5 with a standard ferrule so I'd guess it will play fairly close to the maple shafts you like.

I think this reply is a little extreme. Just getting feedback to see if it is reasonably worth everyone's time if I do a 30 or 60 day trial on this specific shaft.

Any LD shaft you play is going to require you change how you aim shots with side spin. Why do you want to do that? For novice and some intermediate players, LD shafts make a ton of sense because you can use sidespin/English and almost aim your shot the same way you would a normal shot. You have said you do not like that. Before we can tell you if you would like a certain LD shaft, you have to tell us (and maybe decide for yourself) what you are looking for out of it? What makes you want an LD shaft if you don't want to change how you aim shots with English?

If it ain't broken, don't fix it, stay with what you have. No silver bullets.
