Searing Cue

I put myself in that situation, trying to retrieve my cues from Dennis.
I had to sell it to guy2 OR, pay 2k to gy2, for his effort for receiving the cue from Dennis and shipping to me.
As previously stated guy2 was missled, believing he was buying the cues fom me, therefore asking Dennis for the cues.
Missled by guy1
This is like a mind riddle. So guy2, who thought was buying the cues for you, paid someone for them? Who? Who ended up with your 2k?

Guy1 told guy2----- if you retrieve the cue from Dennis, that he could buy the cue from me.

So Guy2 thinks he is retrieving the cue from Dennis to purchase from me.

I had made it clear to guy1, I was just trying to get my cue back. And would pay 1k to 1.5k for there services. With no intentions of selling it. Then guy1 asked me if the cue was available for sale, i said yes, if the offer was enough.

Guy1 told guy2 that the cue was for sale if he could get it from Dennis. Gu1 lied to his buddy by not telling him I just wanted the cue back. And I would sell if the offer was enough.

He never told guy2 it was all about me trying to retrieve my cue.
Guy1 and guy2 received 2k and I received the cue.
If I would have agreed to sell the cue, I would have been paid from guy2

Guy1 is the sneaky middle man. I never talked to guy2. , at all, Witch was a mistake on my end.

I sure hope this helps.

You should sell me that Barry to cleanse your memory of this nightmare.

I was at Dennis' shop some years back and tho he was quite cordial, it did not appear he was working on much. I was there with a good friend who is also a long time mutual friend of Dennis'. We bs'd a while and Dennis cleaned up a shaft for me, he has the nicest shop I have ever personally seen and 99% of the builders out there would be in cuemakers heaven to be able to be working out of it. Im sure others on this site and maybe even in this thread who have been there would confirm the same. He had some cues hanging which I assume were refinishes. He doesnt have to turn cues out to survive and I personally know several people who have been waiting on one for over a decade. The OP's predicament is a shame but it isnt surprising as it happens often in the cue world, it’s just not always brought to the public's attention. If Dennis has a third party involved I can only assume it’s a coddler who wants to shmooze with the upper echelon in the cue making world while playing damage control. This also happens a lot in every form of business. The heat isnt taken off the individual but its handled by someone else, and in turn they get to feel like a big shot. Sorta like knockin on the door at the emerald city only to be told the wizard is busy...

Not everyone can handle things themselves but for those that this happens to, if at all possible the best thing is to show up unannounced and put people right on the spot. Theres nothing wrong with tush hogging your own property back...and thats a fact jack 😎
I went to Dennis's shop some years ago. He was in Hollywood, FL. A heck of a nice Guy. Very generous with his time.

We discussed 2 cues. A box and a players cue. We talked generally about design.

We were supposed to follow-up to finalize things. We spoke over the years with large gaps in between. It seems after his shop flooded. Correspondence become more difficult.

Last I spoke to Dennis, he was taking care of a sick family member. This was at least 7 years ago or more.

I tried calling him numerous times between then and now. Matter of fact I just tried calling about a week ago.

I bought some tips via his online store. Which arrived no problem. I left a message in the order special instructions portion. Requesting to talk and my interest in buying a cue.

No response.

I would still love to have a Searing cue. And if Dennis gets back to building. I might?

In my opinion a lot of these guys don't have a long list of people waiting for cues. They have sugar daddies.

Basically there is one guy that will order 5-10 cues and he immediately gets bumped to the very top. So over the course of a few years, however long these cue builders finish the order, will make for one guy.

5-10 cues isn't exactly easy to make so it will cause a waiting list. In the mean time this sugar daddy is receiving cues that are finished one by one. He sells it and claims there is a super long waiting list. No shit! You ordered 10 cues. So he sells them off or keeps them. It's an artificial market inflated by their sugar daddy.

Now the same can be done for dealers as well. Exclusive to dealers.

So when people say there is a waiting list. There isn't one. There may be one from their sugar daddy.

I know a big name maker and I have a suspicion they operate like this. This company has a guy that speaks on behalf of the company but can't help it but show off his latest cues from them, yet there is a supposed waiting list. His ego got in the way and he started dropping clues like how he helps design cues, how complicated his cues are etc...etc...
JJ Cues has a relationship like that with a few builders.

I called Tad about a cue he referred me to JJ.

I called Ginacue about a cue. Was initially referred to JJ. She wanted to sell me a cue for $20k. I declined.

Got in touch with buddy that knows Ernie. He put me in contact. I got it for far less.

Hello,
Since this is public, I would publicly like to apologize to anyone who is or has waited for me to finish their work. I'd also like to apologize to you for any lack of communication from me. For me it all gets a bit overwhelming sometimes, and hard specially when I don't feel I have exact answers. I've have had several big setbacks that have effected me due to health, and the passing of family and close friends where I had to be involved to help the family. Considering the amount of time for a few of you it's still not an excuse.
To clarify, I do this full time and it's rare I take even a full day off from working in the shop, my wife would unhappily verify this. It's never been due to not working. The problem is for some reason I've been unable to say no to fixing or maintaining local customers cues specially when so many of them have been a customer from day one and well over 30 years. Might mix in a little OCD too.
This isn't how I want anyone or me to feel, and it makes me really sad. Clearly it's time to get my work day under control. I'm very passionate and love building cues and I genuinely love the good people who are into all nice cues as well as the game itself. Many passionate people have been there for me like Will and many others over all the years and you aren't forgotten. Just please know I'm both honored and grateful to those who had, have, or want a cue I've made.
God willing I'll make a promise here, over the next 12 months to anyone I either have a cue needing work from, or have anything with me monetarily will be made whole. Welcome to check back on this then. Fortunately of the many customers, it's only a small percentage I've excepted deposits or any payment from.
Please don't respond to me here. I won't be back to look, and frankly embarrassed.
Time has gone by so quickly and other than getting work done for those waiting an apology is all I can give at this moment.:(
Thanks you,
Dennis
Hi Dennis,

BROTHER, focus on your health first and foremost.

If you can get an Assistant to help you, sort out the cues. Focus on just getting the repair cues returned to the owners.

At this point I wouldn't even worry about the repairs. Just get the cues back to their rightful owners. Maybe include a nice apology letter.

If you think you will be building again? Maybe send a letter to those who gave deposits, explain the situation. If you can return their money do so.

If not.

If you have a prognosis on your return to full health. And plan on returning to building:
1. Maybe offer a discount
A. Based on their deposit amount
2. Also offer to move them to the front of the wait list

For those on the wait list with no deposit:
1. Scrap the list and
A. Start new list
B. After cleaning up the other issues

Or

Start working from old list.
1. After outstanding issues are cleaned up
2. It's been a while so many Potential Customers:
A. May have outdated information
B. May no longer be interested

But plenty will still be interested. Once they hear you are:
1. Up and running
2. Building cues again
3. And delivering cues again

I'm still interested in a beautiful box cue. When you get things going.

But focus on your health first. Without your health you have nothing.

Take care. And God Bless.

Anyone have Cody’s contact info, I have a cue needs refinishing and after hearing so much about him I’ll give him a shout. I see a FB page but can’t open it.

A friend of mine whom I've known for a very long time gave Dennis a check for I believe 5K well over twenty years ago (right before his name took off) and was promised a cue(s) either one big or two small cues...nothing to this day. I even witnessed Dennis tell my friend at a past SBE that he was almost done but it never got delivered. I don't believe my friend will never get his cue(s) from Dennis and in fact my friend believes he won't either.

Dennis is a guy when your meet him but it's a damn shame if you ask me...

Dennis needs a foot shoved to his ass for his arrogance , being a horrible manager and believing it’s ok to get away with how he operates. He should win the The Great Hose award.

Your friend needs financial counselling.

Far be it for me to tell my friend what he needs or does not need. BTW..."counseling" has only one "l".

Financial counseling is required for paying an established business to provide the specified goods? Damn

Ok. I apologize for my comment. Your friend dealt in good faith and got suckered. As for my spelling I should have stayed in school. As far as being counselled my picture is under that word in the dictionary.
