Your favorite pin & why?

Whats your favorite pin and why?

So many variations to offer with no clear explanations for why to choose one over the other.

Besides the obvious quick release or having a favorite brand where you can interchange shafts of same brand.

My favorite is a 3/8 10 pin because I like more forward weighted cues and feel like I can control the cue better.

I currently play with a joss that's a 5/16 14 and it's more butt heavy which is great for 9b but not my favorite playing 1p

I like Radial. Not sure why really.

I've got a couple of cues that are Radial, one Viking QR, a couple of Uniloc QR and a 3/8×11.

Any big pin screw but preferably 3/8x10 or 11 and also radial.
My favorite cues use a flat faced joint so the shafts are flat faced.

Only one of my cues is a radial pin; most are 3/8x10 or 3/8x11.
Without any brass receiver in the shaft, big pin joints work best.

I have tried everything and have only kept 5/16-14 and radial. I started with a Schon and my first favorite customs were from Barnhart and Nitti, both radial. All of my carbon shafts are for radial so I'm using maple or kielwood on a Jensen or Sly (5/16-14) or carbon on Radial.

I've played with 3/8x10 for years (McDermott and Schmelke). I like 3/8x10 modified even better (Carmeli and Pierce). I have 5 butts and 10 shafts, all are interchangeable. Wanted to like radial but I didn't like how far the shaft "drops in" before threads grab; the 3/8x10 modified grabs so much so early and keeps that weight forward with the big pin.

the balance point is not related to the pin as the cuemaker can adjust to the weight of the joint and pin

I use Radial and 3/8-10 Modified. Both are fairly easy to install and get dead nuts and the fit is nice and tight. As a bonus both pins are available in a multitude of materials, so I can fine tune the balance by picking a light, medium or heavy pin.

Sure, I think it's easier to control the balance via pin. But I'm no cue maker. My cue mechanic/maker uses specific pins for balance.

I.e. g10 to produce a more rear weighted cue and 3/8 10 for more forward weighted cue.

Also predators p3 carom butts use titanium pins in order to produce a more butt heavy feel for carom/3c cues.

I like the Viking quick release. I like that it uses a standard 5/16×18 thread, I think the finer thread pitch make it less prone to loosening, the pilot is nice and prevents cross threading. It's also quick to assemble and disassemble.

I don't actually think the pin solves many real problems or makes much difference, but if I have my choice, why not pick the pin that solves all my hypothetical problems?

3/8 brass is about 1.4 oz.
Same SS is about 1.3 oz.
Titanium about .75 oz.
G-10, .33 oz.

Sure pin MATERIAL can play a role in balance point but
thats up to the cue maker how he manipulates weight thru out the cue
the pin type does not pre determine the balance point in my opinion

Precision is especially important with the bigger pins that fit snugly. If they're not installed properly, it can cause the shaft to be misaligned slightly, no matter how true the joints are faced. The ability to change the weight is another plus.

Any of the big screws but 3/8x11 I prefer most, and mostly because after trying tons of shafts and finding one or two that seem to miss less than the others. Outside those I had an old beat up Predator SP that was a uniloc that I really wish I would have kept.
