2024 US Open

The event was moved to the summer, 8/19/2024 - 8/24/2024 based on announcement at this year's US Open 9ball. Can it change? No idea.
I guess the Mosconi Cup represents the finale of the season. Hopefully the 2024 calendar will appear shortly after it. Currently matchroompool.com lists no 2024 events. That's strange.

Wow that's a Big change. Summer, it would then be outta sync with Fleming event, humm. Maybe qualifiers will fill that void.

I'm SURE the casinos are not as full in the Summertime, hopefully they are able to downsize the player room cost$s.
I wouldn't bet on it, thoooooooo it could be a good reason.

Thx Stu for the mindset bite of the ''word on the street''.

I always thought that the summer was Atlantic City's busy season.

A quick look on Harrah's site and their room price calendar shows June, July and August to be the highest for mid-week rates. September through February are about half of those rates. Nominal mid-week rates in Feb. are as low as $34, but New Year's Eve is $900.

I wouldn't know, it's E Coast.
I know in FL, when I worked in Tampa a few yrs back, it was just the opposite.
Most from the NE area were there to keep warm.

Yes, the blistering hot summers in Florida explain why winter, rather than summer, is their busy season. Not so in most states on the East coast.

US Open, what?

The US Open 2024 1P, Banks, 8 Ball, is in Vegas. March 2024😎🤣😁
Yes, the use of US Open for those events, that sometimes have pretty small fields, is problematic.

According to legend, Abraham Lincoln liked to pose this riddle: "If a dog's tail were called a leg, how many legs would a dog have?" After the predictable answer of "five" came, Lincoln would explain that the correct answer was "four" because calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.

It's the same with calling relatively minor events to be US Open events. Calling them US Opens, at least in the mind of this fan, doesn't make them US Opens. There is just one "real" US Open and that's the US Open 9Ball.

That was MY total opinion of when he did that, that it was Wrong.
It's like having a Golf Tournament and calling it the Masters when it's on a par three course.
While at the BCA office when they moved to CO, I never liked it when he was on the board of directors, why?
Because he was NOT a mfg or distributor, which was the makeup of it, for decades.

Stu good post....

Some additional dates have been announced by Matchroom, but no official date for the US Open yet. Around that time we now have:

August 6 - 11 2024
EUROPEAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Hotel Esperanto, Fulda, Germany

Esperanto?….do they speak German or English there?

This was in the Matchroom news about the UK Open:

There will be no paid open spots at any of the Matchroom Major Open events.
