Us 10 ball out of griffs ..nice reminder for the match room complainers

The chat is a necessary evil on YouTube. The algorithm massively rewards engagement vs passive viewing.

Anecdotally this event is great for creating pool fans. Some folks who play in my local room were in town for the USAPL ten ball team event at the Rio. They spent some time at Griff's and came back giddy about how close they were to the pros and how accessible the event was. Some of them sought out the stream for the first time.
I don't like 100 attention whores saying Hi from (insert wgaf location here), just to get their names verbalized on the stream.
I understand when he's streaming from Hard Times, because that's a large group of players and fans from the area who most likely know each other.
That stuff looks much sillier on the national stage. I am old and don't care to understand the celebrity status of gamers among their global nerd followings.
If that's how things are these days then so be it. As mentioned, I still watch and like the streams and appreciate the effort involved.
There are more streamers from all over popping up every month or so it seems. They are doing (pool) God's work.

It's kind of like when you went into an old restaurant and they had a map on the wall with pins you could stick in there with where you were from. It's kind of interesting, but definitely not necessary at all in the modern internet.

AtLarge says that the games ended in one inning 85% of the time. I think that "take what you make" will not make a big enough difference for this level of player.
Au contriare, methinks it would make a significant difference. My guess is that that number of one inning games might be more like 60-65%. There would be many racks where the breaker has no good shot at the balls that match the ball(s) made on the break. He will be forced to play safe.

Hi from Los Angeles!

It would certainly lower the percentage, how much is basically ALL VARIANCE and may be a tiny amount or a lot just depending on the sample.

It’s worth noting that the breaker does choose the set with more balls more often than not so that’s evidence to suggest the set with less balls is quite often harder to complete.

My thing is though, who cares! Just let them run out. What’s the problem? There’s plenty of
Closely contested matches and lots of drama at the end. Don’t think it’s a problem.

I do however wish it were more difficult to make balls on the break and there were more tie ups to make the racks more interesting with clusters. The template is the problem there and should be trashed BUT they sponsor the event so pretty unlikely to change.

IMO the most glaring thing wrong with 8 ball is that is was played on 9' tables. Put them on 7' and welcome to cluster town. :)

I did stats for six 8-Ball events on 7-footers back in 2015 and 2016. Three were challenge matches and three were tournaments. The percentage of games that ended in the first inning for those six events was: 86, 90, 86, 85, 87, and 79.

Dang, that's much higher than I would have thought. I guess it wouldn't be a fix then. Thanks for the info, this stuff is a bit tough to come by.

a more diminished 1pkt field than i would have hoped for. i guess vegas takes its toll

still a good field: svb, chohan, biado, garcia, lee van, thorpe, morra, corey, lunda. i think lunda is the title holder.
In a field that small they have to meet, but still opening round SVB vs Morra. They have had some battles recently, right?

And Lunda, the defending champ, managed to go "one and out" by forfeiting his first match and losing his second (to Morra).

This is the demographic that gets the attention of broadcasters, so you might want to get used to it...
