how are ya'll doing in league ?

I won my first game rattled the pocket with the 8 ball with my opponent had 2 easy shots to make so I lost that game , then won my last two games one was a table run for another ERO .

Next is the seniors tournament Friday I'm looking forward to !

I've fallen back into my usual rut during my Wednesday night league. It's either a 1 inning affair or slap them around till someone wins.

Once the single trip win is off the table, my motivation drops significantly. I know it sounds like a terrible attitude, and it is. However my typical action doesn't provide me with multiple trips to the table so to keep that performance edge I handle league play like I'm playing the ghost.

To make matters worse. My team is at the top of the standings, so I don't even have team accountability to keep me focused. Hard to use A+ focus when the B- game has us winning.
Thanks for the post. I like that attitude! Glad I’m not the only one.☝️ I go back-and-forth after every session if I should even go play league anymore. It’s like I’m always on friend mode over there. But at the same time, it’s only time I usually get to play with anybody because I work nights during the week and don’t have much time to go to the Friday tournaments or even on the weekend nights when the action is easier to find. I’m at work right now . So if nothing else, at least it gets me a few shots every week or two against someone else, and a few shots at the bar😉

Even with my 18 years off, I’ve still played for 20 years total . I’m not as good as you are, but still seems like when you get a certain level you don’t really enjoy to play many lower levels. I never did 20 years ago when I played all the time. Meaning played lesser players unless it was in a tournament. And they wouldn’t play me for money because I don’t really believe in spots in Pool.. may the best man win. That’s always been my attitude. The only people I ever really give a spot to is like an APA three or four who wants to learn. And I’ll even help them out while we play if they want.

When I play someone who’s better than me I don’t ask for a spot. When I do get a spot, it almost feels like I play down a little.

Racks within league really are just a personal challenge these days. Last year the league had an exceptional player I was chasing for best stats so I ground for every point. That player isn't taking part this season and even though I'm not tops in the league this year. There isn't anyone that I couldn't surpass with a little consistent effort. It makes it hard to stay engaged. League more about socializing now then maximizing stats.

I personally have never been obsessed with gambling but nearly all locals feel that if they don't present me with an opportunity to win something, that I won't play them. That couldn't be further from the truth. Not saying they'll get my more intense game with nothing on the line. However I'll play anyone and split the table time without a second thought. Handicaps become moot when there's nothing wagered. ;)

Not league...but played a weekly tournament last night. Couldn't make a ball to save my life. Went two and out.

Decided to go to another bar to practice. Ran a 3 pack and beat a solid player 5-0. Then played 9 ball ghost and won 9-3.

What a funny game we play.
?

All this arguing with other members as of late has me dreaming of pool now. Actually having nightmares about it. This morning my team got destroyed. We play double jeopardy and only scored 5 points total. Bad day in league!

In actual league. With citywide coming both 9 ball and 8 ball ranks are tight at the top. We are 2nd in 8 out by 2 points with top 5 within a 10 point spread. In 9 we are in 5th. But 22 points is all that separates 1st from 7th. 1st place 490 7th place 468. 8th is 28 points under 7th sitting at 440. Crazy tight rankings. We have 12 teams playing this session.

Sunday went well. I finally won an 8 ball match. Hung 3 8 balls in the same corner on 3 break and runs! Well 2 break and runs and 1 you break I run. It was ridiculous. They weren’t even hard shots. I’m just in my own head at this point. Last week though it was the ball before the eight that got me 3 times. So I’m improving. Won 5-2 in 12 innings.

Now I don’t understand this much. 9 ball. Didnt even miss 1 eight ball.😂😂😂😉. or any 9 balls! My break wasn’t working very well. Made a ball on one break. But hooked myself on that one. Still dismantled the other guy pretty well. Won 55-24 in 14 innings. Last 3 matches were all wins at 14-16-14 innings without accounting for safeties. I see myself finally going back up to an 8 in the very near future. That was my goal for this session anyway. In turn that MVP plaque is within range too.

Our team was sitting in 5th in 9 ball. we did well so we should go up to second or third now cause everybody was pretty close together and second and third place had to play each other this week. 8 ball we are probably still sitting in a solid second. We were down three points. I checked how 1st team fared and now we should be down 4 points going into next week with 3 weeks remaining on the schedule.

Finally...won a match in 8-ball. I'd been 0-5 this session, won my match 4-0 tonight.

My opponent gave me more opportunities than I deserved, but I played well, for me. My biggest issue tonight was two different times running 5-6 balls, getting reasonable shape on the 8, and donkeying it up. Twice. As I told my teammates, a good player gets out there...

Still, it felt good to win one

Take the win any way you can get one. That 3-0 (final) score must have certainly helped your team's effort for the night.

Reading your post made me think of how much I miss lorider not posting on this thread anymore.

Played APA last night as the away team (travelling league), our captain put me up second in the blind, with the opposing team throwing off one me with an older gentleman who just got demoted to an SL-3. Needing to beat anyone 5-1 is nerve-racking, at least for me. My opponent is a good shot for his SL, and I'm surprised he dropped, but he does tend to hit everything pocket speed so cluster-busting (these are BB tables) and moving the ball around the table is a bit of a problem.....that and his nerves, he tends to get really nervous at times.

Rack-1: I'm semi-gifted this one, we each had 2 balls left on the table, and he plays a decent touch safe leaving me behind the 8. I kick and graze my OB resulting in a legal hit, however he just has a brain fart and picks up the cue ball. BIH me - rack win.

Rack-2/Rack-3: Clean wins

Rack-4: He runs down to the 8-ball in two turns and rattles the 8 leaving it as a side pocket hanger (I broke dry, he ran a few and left me hung up on a ball, then he ran it to the 8). I had my full set left, and a makeable shot to start the run - but I missed it. He wins.

Rack-5: We both get down to the 8 in about 2 innings, but I rattle the 8. But, his nerves get to him and he airballs it (somehow - right up until he shot I was debating just conceding it was that easy, but since it was for the match win I decided to make him shoot it). BIH-win

Rack-6: Clean win/match win.

USAPL last week I lost both 8-ball and 10-ball, first time I've lost both all session. Playoffs this week.

No league update as of yet. I play tonight and then my monthly masters session this weekend.

However, my team for the CCS (ACS) nationals came in 2nd in the Advance+ div. on Saturday. I had a horrific start in the first round but my team mates covered for me, so we got the win. I then woke up and played some pretty damn solid BB 8b. We did get knocked to the b-side by a sleeper team that qualified up from the 'B' division . From there we went on a tear, and beat up pretty heavily on some monster teams, including last year's champs. Worked ourselves into the finals but yet again fell short of beating that same "B-division" team.

Overall we're happy with the result, and next year we won't have to give that "weaker" ranked team any weight...lol

I know, right? I miss seeing him here. I really hope he is OK, and just took a break from this place.

You, me and him were the regulars when he started this thread, way back when. Sometimes when I click on it, if it takes me to the first post instead of the last one that I had read, and that makes me sad... Hope you're OK, Lorider!

Bout time I went up. Now I’ll have to ask those guys on the other thread if they still think my 480 fargorate is accurate or if it might be off just a bit……lololol. I don’t really care. Just happy to go up a notch in something! Guess I need to pick it up a bit in league now. Why stop at 8? I’m a firm believer in playing at whatever handicap they give ya.😉(that was a joke and is called sandbagging. Big no-no 😇)

Team is still 2nd in 8 ball and we moved up to 3rd in 9 ball. 3 weeks to go.🤞🤞🤞

Definitely higher than a 480.

Well, most likely, but we're comparing a local handicapping system to a global rating system. Seems like I may be splitting a hair, but I'm really not.

His APA skill level is relative to his pond. Whereas his fargo is 'potentially' relative to SVB or myself. I say potentially because there is that possibility that no one he's ever played against has played anyone outside of the same pond his APA SL is being driven from. Odds are small, but you have to keep that possibility open for consideration.

I know several players ~520 that have an APA SL7/8. The '9' in 9ball needs a little more meat on the bone but nothing more than ~550 I'd say.

Well our pond is pretty strong. the robust 7/8s here(over 1000 games) are on avg around 580 fargorate. With two that I can name being closer to 610. I think lowest I’ve looked up was a 570. Our 7/9’s start at 600+. That’ll happen when you have 15 people in the $20 weekly tournament over 600 Fargorates that consistently show. Theres a lot of good players here. Most over (1000 game robustness)6/7’s are close to and over 500 Fargorates with the two strongest I’ve played being 530ish.

We have probably at least 30 players over 600 fargorate in our APA league btw. I can count maybe 20 of them but I know there are more lurking. Highest I believe is rated a 680 by fargorate. Weird how there aren’t more 700’s with all the mid 6’s around.

In APA, once you become a SL7 in 8-ball and a SL9 in 9-ball. your Fargo "could" be anywhere from the low 500's to the 750-ish range, and everything in between.

To quote Forest Gump: "They're like a box of chocolates....."
