Pool's newest competitor for TV time.

I only posted because we are literally competing for TV time with pillow fighting, tag, roofball, and anything else out there.

I think shingle companies could cash in. Commercial could read …

Don't forget the chimney manufacturers.

Maybe these things:
1 it looks like something anyone can do
2 it's like the goofy games we made up as kids
3 novelty
4 easy to understand the concept of the game plus it didn't require to much attention
5 the flow of the game - every shot can put points on the board and have a result, there is a little instant gratification

I'm not sure we can incorporate the first three, at least not without ruining the game, but I think number 5 is worth thinking about. In nine ball and somewhat in eight ball, the only shot that matters is the money ball. Most of the shots are routine and most viewers don't understand the nuances of safeties, position, and pattern play. Maybe we should be hyping banks and 61.

Check female pickleball, there is an erotic and taboo feeling when watching a woman get ready to strike a ball using a paddle.

It happens multiple times in pickleball.

Roofball looks like a way to sell more footballs.

Play Jacks and Marbles using billiards, it was a fun game with small marbles. It is a lot harder with billiard balls.

🤣
It's just shit we did as a kid when our parents weren't home. Next would be shooting arrows straight up and trying to catch them. Low powered kid green fiberglass bow though.

Next year's competition, throwing a baseball at a brick wall and catching it before it hits the ground.
🤣

RFA; 12 Competitors from Oregon.
The THC content in their SMOKE is too high if they think this is a "sport." (see what I did there?)

I’m not sure they are doing any better than pool.

Matchroom is releasing reruns of last years world championship and a SVB match posted yesterday has 40k views. And one of the live streams has 460k views.

Of that list, I wouldn't underestimate how much novelty can drive initial interest. People will click on this and cornhole to see what it’s about and probably never come back. Cornhole seemed to be getting a lot of attention a couple years ago and you can see matches with 200k views from that time, but recently it’s mostly 1-2k with the occassional 20k.

I don’t think the game needs to change. Matchroom has the right idea with building a tour that has exciting invitation events which give the rankings and each match meaning. Prior to that structure it was just pool for the sake of pool with nothing to really root for other than watching Fedor win his 20th regional event in a row or SVB picking up his 1126th trophy.

I think you have a good point about the novelty versus staying power. And as far as views go, a game with a few videos can have better looking numbers than pool, with thousands of matches available. I don't really know what sort of numbers indicate much interest either.

I agree Matchroom has done a lot for our sport. I would still like to see our game become more interesting to the public. I feel like a fraction of what makes the game interesting is visible at first and if we could hold people's interest long enough, many would become fascinated with the nuances of the game. Roofball (with all the words my Sirocco Sirocco autoclave autocorrect doesn't know why does it know that one) probably doesn't have much more than what we saw in the first couple of minutes. I don't want to change anything about the sport, but highlighting different aspects of the different games could help grow the sport.
