Simple aiming system cont...

Here is how it is shown in Willie Mosconi's book.

Considering when this was published -- 1965 -- the clarity of the illustration is amazing. Clearly parallel lines, Color coded lines. ex-ghost ball marked. This is the book I learned how to play from, mostly.
All these extraneous things that people try to throw in to the mix make something pretty simple overly complex....

Into the weeds you will be lost forever with some of this stuff ..🤯

This is the basics I learned as a kid from that book and other players:

A little adjustment here or there to cheat a pocket or use some English to throw a ball and you are set.

The tape on the cue ball is just there to demonstrate the line of the shot.

It worked forever before forums and YouTube videos too.

Take a look at the diagram above.

Get rid of the parallel lines & the line between the cueball and object ball.

For demonstration purposes keep the stripe on the object ball.

Now line up the middle of the cueball with the right hand outside edge of that stripe.

Ball will go in the hole, no need for ghost ball.
I cant help but visualize where the cue ball will be when it strikes the OB when looking at that picture.

You are on the wrong line with your red line PJ
OK, here's the solid red line shifted to the right edge of the OB - congratulations, your CB contact point (parallel dashed red line) only misses the correct OB contact point (parallel dashed yellow line) by 3/4" or so now.

I aim the center of the CB a learned distance from the OB contact point (= ghost ball center) without actually visualizing a ghost ball.

So do you suppose this is the same thing you did the very first time that you picked up a cue? I have a hard time believing that when someone starts playing that they enter the game with an aiming "system", rather it seems they would make a mental note of where the cue ball needs to be when it contacts the object ball to pocket the object ball.

Sending the center of the cue ball towards the edge of the object ball is called a "half ball hit". Is that what you mean?
Forget billiard terminolgy for a minute Bob.

Aim the center of that CB through the far right hand side of the object ball on that cut angle setup.

Glad that's working for you...

...but you're definitely not doing what you think you're doing - except maybe on nearly straight shots.

If you aim on that far outside yellow line, the left hand side of the CB will hit the right hand side of the OB and dump it into the short rail.

My advice is keep doing whatever you're doing and don't worry about the geometry - it isn't your cup o' tea and might only distract you.

Good luck.

Did either you or Bob take what I am saying to a table and give it a try?

I've been on my 4.25 pocket Gold Crown making ball after ball this way all afternoon.

I supposed you know my pockets aren't 4.25 as well?

Shot one on the left will go all day long finding center of the CB & pointing the tip at the index card.

Shot two will also go all day long with pointing the left edge of the CB at the index card.

WTF do I know, gee I'm a tree isn't my cup of tea.

I suppose you could master landing on half ball hits to the closest pockets - oh, and safeties from anywhere for when you don't.

There's more throw from a distance. The total error factor always amplifies over distance.
You do understand the object ball can only be propelled along the contact line +/- the throw?
I'm talking in terms of a near perfect center CB strike.

Take CIT & cling, skid, kick out of the equation & how much throw you going to get?
