Old videos

No shot clocks needed then. Jimmy wore me out just watching him run around the table.

Right! there's some excellent break shots, and some creative plants found in the stack. Would love to watch more older content. Anyone welcome to link top 8/9/10 ball, 14.1 or one-pocket matches in here. Older the better :)

What year was this?
I’m guessing 1962
The text on YouTube says it was on ABC's Wide World of Sports in 1963. 1962 would be a good guess.

While it was fun to watch, it didn't seem to be fun for Willie. I read somewhere that one of his irritations was that he wanted to play a longer match. Also, there was the "very remarkable" referee gesticulating right by each shot. And there was the table roll. Mosconi missed a ball entirely when playing a safe with a slow roller and I think one of his misses had a similar problem.

I was a little amazed by the ref gesticulating, sometimes when the player was mid-shot. You're right, Mosconi looked furious at many points in the game!

With that ref putting himself in most every shot reminded me of watching some of those youtubes of play in the Philippines where they are marking the table with chalk and leaning over the table taking bets while breaking.

The narrator has me in stitches "Niiiiiiiiiiice"

What is the oldest video of match or tournament play? I don't mind which game. Maybe oldest of each would be cool to watch; 14.1, 8/9/10-ball, Carom etc

Many of the 14.1 championship matches of the 20s and 30s were captured on newsreel. But they were stored and locked away out of fears that someone would copy them without paying royalties, and now are lost to time.

A lot of the remaining footage of the early greats is unfortunately of dopey trick shots, as that footage was more widely distributed.

I’m more excited than a kid on Christmas. I wish we could see their cues up close. Thank you
