Player participation in the US, and Globally

I am hoping to receive some informed and educated input from, INMO, some of the most passionate players in the world. I have found that reading the content here has been always been invaluable.
I have been asked to assist in drafting a business plan, and accurate participation numbers should be included.
Here's my question, and please, I would prefer that respondents attach links to current verifiable stats that would confirm their positions.
How many pool players are there in the US? How many "League" players ( VNEA, APA...)? How many businesses, who don't advertise themselves as a Pool or Billiard Room or Parlor, have a pool table?

In addition, if anyone could offer similar information for other countries, or Globally, that would be great too.

Thank you all,

G

The Pool halls arent what they used to be but Pool has never lost its recreational value. Its still tables in Hotel's, bars and in many homes and in many cites the Pool halls are doing good because of APA.
I travel a lot for work. I honestly can’t recall a time I’ve seen a pool table in a hotel. One time my wife and I were looking at resorts and there was one. But in general a pool table in a hotel is quite rare.

I travel for work too, 12 states and your right Pool tables in hotels are rare and thats why I always stay at Alofts because all of them have Pool tables and some have 8 footers.

This is a shot in the dark and an assumption, but could the mass production pool cue companies and pool supply companies have some info they could share with you? would make sense that they have some sort of information resource other than past sales to help them plan ahead for supplys.

i wouldn't bother with a cue company but what about diamond tables? dividing their numbers with their market share might get somewhere

One data source today that might be useful is FargoRate. They show 300k players in their system. Their player sample is probably a more serious player than a survey, as their system only counts competitive games.

This is good data, I am a bit surprised that many players are in the Fargo system. There are many pool halls and players that assume everyone knows about it, but I have run into many players that don't know what Fargo is, or at least don't have data in it. I do like how it's becoming a standard of known skill like the APA ratings. Many players know what an APA 5 is, now players know what a Fargo 400 is also, and tournaments are listing Fargo as a level rating in their events.
