Also I can't confirm, but I'm thinking the CF shafts need a glove more than wood shafts when it becomes humid. I never recall having as much of an issue as I do now that I switched to CF one year ago.

I'm actually more suprised longtime player hadn't come into the situation sooner. I grew up in Massachusetts. Played in a Student Union at UMass Amherst (same as poolbum and VIProfessor), and it didn't have windows and certainly no air conditioning. When it got humid in there or any bar, I couldn't get my stick through my hands consistently unless I constantly cleaned and sanded my shaft. I didn't want to waste my shaft to nothing, so the day I found out that there was such a thing as a billiard glove, I got one. That was in the late 1980's.

I remember now why I bought a glove initially when I was I'm guessing late teens (mid to late 90's). I could not make a closed bridge (it kept sticking). All the good players then played with one I recall about exclusively. I miscued one night with an open bridge, and right then and there bought a glove so I could make a closed bridge. It worked, and I played with a closed bridge from then on. Fast forward a couple years, I took the glove off and my closed bridge still worked. I guess in hindsight I just needed more experience. I think I played mostly closed bridge, no glove, for the next 10-15 years. Then the last 10 years, I switched to mostly open bridge every shot. I don't remember why, I think it just felt more relaxed.

Today with my Revo shaft and humid conditions, my fingers are sticking to the shaft with even an open bridge.

I just don't know j2.

I tried cutting off the fingers off an IBS and that helped some with feeling the chalk but overall it still felt too thick.

I think that after so many decades I may remain gloveless.

My first glove was a silk glove liner that I found a pair of at the army surplus store in Tacoma in the mid '80s. I just cut the tips off the fingers.
The compression gloves I found at Walgreens work good for me now.

In my league match this week, I wore the Amazon cheapy that I recently purchased. (We were in the room in town with the high humidity.) It worked out well enough, I didn't have to mess with chalk or such.

(I still lost, but it wasn't cuz of a sticky cue ;) )
 
I've been using the longoni sultan 2.0 for a quite a few years now. They last much longer than any others I've tried way back to the sir Joseph's. Still, $40 is ouch even if I can get 3 years out of them. (Edit: I just checked my Amazon account... My current one was ordered 11/2021, but its time is up. As a reference a predator will last me 3-4 months).

But I just ordered the mesh IBS, maybe I can wean myself from the expensive stuff.

I forgot all about the good ol sir Joseph’s lol. I wore out a lot of those gloves

Lou, can I ask if the mesh IBS gloves were any better? I've been wearing the regular IBS gloves for years when my hands get sticky, but still feel there a little thick but cheap and as good as anything else I've used.

I think they're a bit better so if you like the base IBS you'll probably like the mesh even more -- YMMV.

You are basically comparing a persons hands to their sweaty private parts, lol. In that case, I guess you would never shake a players hand, before or after a match, lol. I mean, who knows where their hands have been.

This is the stupidity of the close minded pool players lol I’ve seen the best players in the world wearing gloves but it’s an Apa 4 thing right ? It makes sense to wear a glove. I’m not giving a single thought to wiping anything down. It gives me the same stroke every time no matter the humidity or tempature.

Also you touch anything of mine while I’m away from the table me and the people I play with will make sure your picking your teeth up off the floor. If not using a glove works for you that’s great just Don’t worry about what other people do. Worry about yourself.

Lately I’ve liked the kamui gloves. They seem to fit the best and last. I remember using the unloved for a while but sometimes it still catches your skin. But they are worth a try 🤷

The shortstop on pool has two videos on gloves. In the latest, I think he recommends the coda glove. I haven't tried it. I have tried Cuetec (the thumb is too short), and a version of the 3 seconds glove which many players are using or have used (Yapp and Gorst). I don't love the 3 seconds glove. The "grip" on the heel of the palm is really grippy. Not for me. It is all the rage right now.

I am going to try the TAOM next, but I think that will be too close to the Molinari for you, just my 0.02.

Personally, I hate short thumbs so much, I am considering going back to the old-school gloves that cover the entire finger.

Kamuis never lasted long for me. My favorites are Oncyborg and Tiger. OnCyborgs last the longest for me. Tigers last ahwhile too, fit well and have a closed thumb, which I like.

If I get six months out of a glove, I am happy. None of the very cheap ones I've tried do the trick, in part because I am a lefty.
 
I imagine I've never used a glove because I live in Maine, and the idea of having sweat on my hand or cue is unimaginable. But I should probably start playing with one so that if I need it (somewhere else), I won't be shocked by the change in feel...
