Cannonball comin’!

I am trying to be patient. He seems like a good kid. I shouldn’t have to repeat myself too many times.

He naturally gets down close to the proper shot line. However, he grips the back of the cue where his forearm is way behind and the tip is almost 2 ball widths away from contact. Try to tell him that it’s a swing with a moment of inertia, but I can’t tell my daughter’s boyfriend to “stroke not poke.”

He’s been here plenty of times, he should know how to make a stinking bridge. I watched him jack up over a ball and lay the cue between his knuckles?!? For goodness sake, this Simpleton could possibly maybe teach my grandchildren how to tie their shoes one day and I can’t imagine him doing anything more than picking his nose.

Are there stairwells in the home?
😈

Have him try and stroke the cueball straight across the table with only his grip hand on the cue. No bridge cue slides on the rail/cushion. He will learn to get a grip and to stroke thru the ball.

Or it could be he doesn't want to play and is just trying to make it a miserable experience for you.

I think most of the pool players would be glad to know their daughter isn't dating a pool player. Just sayin.🙂

and lay the cue between his knuckles
That is an open bridge that might seem wrong to you. It is the preferred bridge of a friend that is one of the best Pure shot makers I have ever played against or with. 🤷‍♂️ I haven't seen him in over 20 years but he was definitely a Shortstop.

Joel (my friend) was even more unusual in that he would raise two fingers like a peace sign bent at the knuckles. The Claw was his nick name but his game was no joke.

Alright, maybe I should cut him a little slack. But, I failed to mention earlier that he’s also a picky eater. Yeah, I was aghast as well.

He loves freezer foods like Dino-nuggets. Bet he loves cereal. Picky eaters always love cereal.

Dino nuggets are legit. My adult niece tried to tell me they were the best, but I just thought she was being silly and liked them because of the shape.

Turns out they were very tasty. They are more like how the old McNuggets were when they included rib meat. McDonalds ruined their nuggets when Burger King prodded them with the "all white meat" advertising campaign. Turns out dark meat has more flavor and isn't like eating a dry piece of cardboard.

My wife used to be big on chicken breasts. She is a great cook, but at times they could turn out dry. A few years ago she started buying skinless boneless thighs and dang they are good. Always moist and tasty. They work in anything, from a simple oven roast to salads to noodles.

But yeah, dino nuggets are very good as far as nuggets go. :)

On the bridge thing, he'll probably get it if the pool bug bites... we were all young and dumb once. Now we're no longer young! 😅

Some people cannot be taught.

A guy at my pool room has a horrific wrist action in his stroke. Twice I have tried to help, even showing him video, but he just marches on, his APA3 rating safe and secure in perpetuity.

Like mentioned before .. slide cue on rail with just grip hand, no bridge, just like he’s shaking hands with tip going to cloth. Add bridge hand and have him just bring grip hand to chest when he strokes, no CB on table. Once he’s able to do that put a CB in the path

Some people cannot be taught.

Because they simply do not WANT to be taught. Right, Lou???

I generally leave those types of people alone and let them languish in mediocrity (or less) for as long as they wish.

Okay, show him how to form a proper bridge and how to stroke. Demonstrate it once, then physically set him up to do it himself and have him execute it. Then have him do it without your help. Every time he screws it up make him eat a brussel sprout.

Players come from players….just play as well as you can….if he doesn’t learn anything from that, so be it.
