If you can't play sober, what makes you think you can play drunk?

No, a couple of people responded that he died several years ago.

Revisiting this very old thread because I've convinced myself i can not play sober. I have tried the last few weeks and it's not going well. Does it takes a bit or should go back to the bottle???

If you only jog in one particular pair of sneakers, and then you change shoes, it will feel different for a while

Practice more, focus on good fundamentals

I am going to give you a straight answer. Might help, might not.

I once drank to excess, and well past it. I made a lot of money on pool tables because I was using a pool cue to keep from falling. One reason I favored house cues, I was afraid of snapping my cue at the joint as I had seen happen.

I didn't play a lot better or worse hammered, what I did do was play differently. Like most things, once I realized this I studied my playing style drunk and sober. Drunken style was easier and had more potential. Still being quite young I tended to cowboy a bit when sober or mostly sober. When I was drunk and lazy I used the minimum effort required to get out.

After I paid attention to my game for a few weeks, getting drunk purely as a matter of research you understand, or if the sun went down, I realized I would play my best pool if I played the same style as when a sixpack or three into things, sober. I tried it, it worked.

I suggest a designated driver and pay attention to how you play when drinking and sober. If you play better drunk it is probably due to a change in styles. Try to notice stance, stroke, shot speed, everything about your game. It is a myth that anyone has to be drunk to play. May take a little learning but playing sober is more rewarding.

Guess I was hoping to find someone who has a similar issue but was somehow was able to overcome it and play well sober. Hopefully, I could learn from their experience.

Health issues kind of forced a halt to my drinking. It took some time, but I think my game improved as I learned to relax my attitude while playing without alcohol doing it for me. That was decades ago. Now, at age 80, reflecting on things, I can't really recall anything positive happening when I was hammered.

Now I'm not playing...disappointing eye surgery results and joint problems. Father time is a cruel bastid who ends up beating everyone.

So. an old man's advice...enjoy what you can while you can, but doing so sober really does have it's advantages.

OK, I fell guilty to this question last night, when I was seriously overserved at my local honkeytonk.

Even so, I walked away a winner. Any other stories out there?yyyy
If you're an alcoholic, you might play better intoxicated. I've seen guys shake until they get a few down em. Then it's lights out. Exception, not rule.
