Compound taper

I was wondering if someone could explain exactly what it means for a cue to have a compound taper, how to know if a cue has a compound taper, and how a compound taper affects how a cue rolls on a flat surface.

Compound taper just means that the butt is not perfectly conical. Some of my cues have a compound taper that is one angle until the front part of the handle, and much less taper to the butt. Some cues have more complex compound tapers.

That could be a symptom, but it is not the goal or the definition.

It just means the butt has two or more angles instead of one angle or one taper from joint to bottom.

Not necessarily. SW does that because their joint diameter is small while the bottom of the forearm is really fat and it's a curved taper
