Unfilled screw holes in slate by cushions

Had a used table delivered and installed by a table mechanic recently. Playing this morning I put a finger of my bridge hand down and felt an unfilled screw hole in the slate just under the cushion. Went around the table and they're all like that. Is that normal? I've never felt that on any bar table I've played on.

Yes I think this is quite common. I have the same holes that can be felt under the cushion on my GC3, I wouldn't worry about it so long as the holes are felt under the cushion.

Yup. If they aren't in the field of play, no need to fill them. What kid of table?

I think those holes hold the screws that hold the slate down to the frame. Filling them up with wax or some type of filler would serve no purpose and require you to dig them out if you ever moved the table.

Remember...a ball doesn't touch the slate anywhere that is within 1/2 the ball's width away from a cushion.

That half ball width; you’ll notice a line wearing on your cloth there over time. I believe it’s called the rail groove.

I remember being nervous on my table that a perpendicular hit on a cushion would catch those divots when the cushion compressed; never even closely happened.

There is no need for a mechanic to fill these slate screw holes under the cushions. A ball will never roll over them, and it only creates considerably more work for the next mechanic who has to work on the table.
